"Since the beginning of time, the owl kingdom has always repelled the creatures of the night with light. But over time, the forces of the night grew in strength and eventually overcame those of the Owl Kingdom. There is only one hope left today to only delay the inevitable..."

Owl Knight is a platform game where you play the role of a little owl who is the last bastion between the owl kingdom and the forces of the night. In this game, you will have to free the families of owls through a procedurally generated level, while delaying the forces of darkness.figure.png

I had problems with the controls, but the graphics are very nice! The audio also supported the mood of the game nicely. I freed 13 owls.

That was awesome!
It's a beautiful blend of focus and frantic.
The graphics were also really pretty and the atmosphere just great.

I did feel a little lost as to the point of the torches (I think they slow down the big scary?) but that was probably me not paying attention enough to the tutorial.

This is definitely a concept that I think could be really cool if it was moved into something bigger.

Well done. :3

Yay, the game is pretty difficult but it is fantastic. Very nice idea, smooth level generation - I love it. I just couldn't understand the reason for using torches. Why would I gather them and throw? Are there enemies that can day from it or something? :)

Oh and the atmosphere - it's just great. Amazing job! :)

@terylangosh Thank you! What problems did you have?

@otterfaelure Thanks a lot! And yes, torches are slowing down the big scary

A lot of care went into the graphics, looks really good, like the ambient music, game was a bit too simple, maybe have more challenging platforming. Doesnt really do anything creative with the theme but the art and sound make for a good mood. Good job.

Looks really good, and the dash was awsome!
The only problem for me is I think there is to much blur on the player when they are moving.

Your game looks amazing, but the game feel is not great. It is hard to understand when you hit enemies or when they hit you, the dash feels a bit useless considering the amplitude of the jump, and I haven't figured out what's the use of throwing torches. T is a weird key to use when playing with WASD, even though I understand why you chose that. Right click would have been a better fit I think.
It is still an impressive amount of work, and it doesn't need mush more polish to really shine.

This game looks really great and there's a nice sense of worldbuilding going on. What each ability was and how to use it was a little unclear, and the controls are a little janky, but the game is really fun. I especially love the variety of enemies, it felt like as I moved forward there was always something new. Great entry!

@askoed It took me a while to grasp on the dash-where-your-mouse-is. And I also didn't get what the torches were supposed to do, because when I threw them, it did nothing to the monsters.

@terylangosh The big monster moves faster and faster so the torches have less and less effect, you have to throw more to have a real impact, but it is not clear in the game indeed.

The jump is very floaty, but that was my only real problem with the gameplay. The game looks very nice, though, and the music is very good. Nice jam game!

Great atmosphere and art style. I really like this intense feeling, when this giant head is after you, so I as a player receive this rushing feeling, well done. I didn't really understand why do you need to throw torches though :D
Thank you!

The game is just beautiful. Though I can suggest you using a bit less post-processing, it was pretty solid game. Thank you for the submission!

The game filled me with nostalgia for the fairy tales my mother used to read to me as a child. Atmospheric pixel style, the work of artists at their best. I would love to see a sequel!

I really loved the art style! Especially the charge-up attack looked really nice. I had some difficulty with the combat, it was hard to hit the enemies while also dodging their attacks. Also after a few tries I ran into a problem where I was stuck in the beginning ("Press T to throw...") and couldn't move. But I really liked that you had a tutorial for some of the mechanics! A solid entry, congrats!

I like the concept and the visual style, they both remind me of Rayman with the freeing of prisoners in cages and the chase.

There are a few issues that I would like to point out to you guys, first the character running animation looks a bit jerky, like he's vibrating back and fort while running. The jump feels too floaty and slow, I think you wanted to go for a fast game but something as important as jumping actually slows you down here. Dashing is really good on the other hand.

Fighting enemies seems pointless and a waste of the distance I put between me and the chasing monster. There's no bonus to beat them and no malus to avoid them, which is also really easy. Also, the over abundance of hearts means that I don't even need to worry about them hitting me. It's too bad because the enemies looks too cool to be skimmed so rapidly.

Finally, there are too many torches. Basically the only reason I was dying when I realized I could just speedrun was messing up the jumps/dashes between the narrow platforms/pillars.

I hope you find this feedback useful, I liked the game and would love to see its full potential. Good job!

Really liked the art and dash, with that charged attack, really cool  I wasn't sure what torches did at the start, but I guess they slow down that big monster? I freed max 23 owls, I always kept dashing from a cliff at the end of that cave  oops
