You are a student in a class room. Today is exam day but you didn't learn at all. So you need to get the test answers by silently asking other students while the teacher is patrolling the room. Don't get caught or you will be disqualified. Get all answers and return to your table to write them down.

Controls: - mouse or touch - restart with R or just reload the page

Tools: - Aseprite - Zig - raylib - VSCode

I ran out of time so I needed to drop several game play mechanics

The original idea was that you could run around and ask other students, but they get annoyed so you cannot ask the same one over and over.

But you could also sneak up to the teachers desk an steal the ansers. Or leave the room to google stuff.

I'd like to also implement the ability to rewind the clock on the wall to get more time for the exam and also fit the theme a little better.

My goal was to use my own game framework zecsi and also get more familiar with zig programming and using raylib. Overall it was a really cool game jam and my first ever Compo entry.

It's like that old Flash game called "The Classroom" I used to play when I was little :)

It's a shame it's so simple, and reading the description, there's some lost opportunities with the extra stuff that could've improved the gameplay of "The Classroom". I mean I've wound back/forward my fair share of clocks at school hehehe. Also, I don't really see the theme in the game, that's my one big nitpick.

This is the nicest teacher I've ever met, and he probably doesn't listen very well.

Very fun man, and I tested it on my phone to see if it ran cool, and it did! Audio would be nice, but I didn't miss it that much.

Congratulations!

I love small games like this. Took me 4 tries to beat, don't know why cos this is the worst teacher ever, They must be near and far sighted while looking through a toilet roll tube :')

Fairly easy game to pickup and understand. I thought I should get a little more advance notice of the teacher's next move. As it was, I just tried to hope that he wouldn't turn around because if so, there was nothing I could do to escape in time. The theme of inevitability didn't come through for me.

Really nice game and awesome that you made it in your own framework! I would love some audio and a turning time for the teacher so you have a bit of extra chance. Impressive that it runs on the phone!

The game is simple, but solid! :v:
Some notes: probably some anticipation or signalling on the teacher's movement would be great, because sometimes feels a little unfair. Also sometimes you kid got stuck on a desk, maybe a navmesh or an A* algorithm could help, but you are using your own engine, kudos for that!

It's a shame that so much got left out. There's the potential here for a really hilarious and adorable game, discovering all the different ways to cheat. What is there is still fun, but it's definitely very straightforward. I wish there was a way to tell when the teacher is about to turn, as it is it feels like dumb luck whether or not you get spotted. Nice job overall, I appreciated it and I enjoyed it.

Simple yet fun game to play. I like that each game your position changes and you will need to adapt your approach. I think if the teacher have some turning animations, it can make the game feel better and more fair. However, I think the teacher's tiny view cone compensated for that lol. Thanks for the game.

The game idea is interesting and the pixel art is good! But teacher can't even realize the student is not at the seat is a little bit strange :P

I agree with quinn, the game is still pretty fun but there was a lot of potential there in the notes you've written, multiple ways to cheat, limited time, the ability to rewind, etc. I'm curious to see what you would do with this had you had more time.

And I must say, very good job delivering a jam game using your own engine, congrats!

Very cool game concept. Gameplay is fast and snappy.

I'm really impressed that you're using your own game framework. That's skills!

It would have been nice to have some music in the game. Music adds so much to mood and game feel.

Like the idea of the minigame.

I come with a strategy to start copying to the ones closest to my desk but not finishing the process, to finish it in the ones that are far appart. Thus I have to stay away less time that I should normally do.

I aced the test ! :v:
That's a shame that you didn't have the time to add the time mechanisme, because it don't really fit the theme currently...
But hey, this is a compo game, good job to have a game that work on so little time !
