The Heat is On by Voidsay

[raw]
made by Voidsay for Ludum Dare 50 (COMPO)

You have forgotten to turn off your nuclear powered oven! It is overheating and will explode. Your only option is to counter the rising heat with something cold until the inevitable happens.

You have stashed some grenades in your apartment. Break thru walls and open some fridges. Your neighbors won't mind.

WARNING audio at the start is rather loud

you can adjust it in the options

If you have any idea how I can prevent the audio popping in WebGl I'd greatly appreciate advice for the future.

This is a really neat and fun game, that oven jumping around looks hilarious, i think best I could do was a score of 130 before getting burned. Great entry

Interesting lore concept, great looking game for a Compo submission. The problem I had was space was sometimes not causing character to jump.

Interesting idea but had some technical problems, mouse sensitivity is very high (even after changing in game options), it is hard to tell what exactyl refrigerators do, and musing is in a little to short loop and gets anoying pretty fast.
Still congrats on nice entry.

I liked the music. I seemed to go well with the floppy physics. I couldn't figure out what to do but it was neat to play around with all the rooms and grenades. Nice work!

It's hard to understand what you've got to do. Some kind of in-game tutorial would have helped. The jumping oven is definitely hilarious :)
Anyway nicely done for a compo entry!

Wow, very odd and interesting entry. Loved the door physics, the bouncing oven that spins arround, the sss-ahhh when you open a fridge, and the general funness of the music. Things that were hard, the cramping up of my view as the game went on, a maze, and lack of direction as i was running around. :-) nice work!!

Great way of using the theme. Grenade is a good addition, too bad it's a bit hard to break a wall, had to use all my ammunition on one. Well done with the music and screen effect to convey the sense of urgency!

Hey, there are number of nice technical achievements there for a compo entry, but I couldn't really find my way through the game in order to really appreciate what it has to offer. The game would benefit a lot from some instructions and more feedback for the player. For example:

* How many grenades do I have left? (And where can I get more?)
* What do I do once I found a refrigerator? Do I have to drop it? Or explode it?
* How do I get back to the oven? (Not sure if this is necessary, but I quickly got lost after going around for a while)

PS: Love the bizarre story!

It's a little unclear to me what exact mechanics delay the overheating of the oven. I started pushing some fridges into the oven room, but there was no feedback whether that was the right idea. Some fridges fell over and I couldn't them through the doorway anymore - perhaps I merely needed to knock them open?

A few times I ran up to the hole I blew in the wall but was too close to it to jump.

An interesting entry, but I wish there was some feedback to inform me whether what I was doing was correct.

As others have said, very interesting game! I really like the music. Unfortunately - as others also have said - it was a bit unclear what I was meant to do. Pushing the fridges into the oven room was pretty frustrating as they often wouldn't go through the doors, and I'm not sure if that even helped. This game could become something great if you added some QoL improvements and a tutorial!
