Quackenfarm by InitialPosition

[raw]
made by InitialPosition for Ludum Dare 50 (COMPO)

Did you ever want to play a farming simulator where you have to think about your moves? No? Well... you get to play as a duck. Convinced now? Nice.

Quackenfarm is the hit round based action gardening simulator featuring a duck. Because of course it is. Plant plants, watch out for weeds destroying your soil and be sure to have your rent ready when you need it...

Features

  • Duck

If you are a Linux user: My Linux buildchain is broken and I was not in a state to fix it yesterday. I have tested the Windows build with wine and it runs very well so you can use that for now. A native Linux build is coming later.

Awesome game, I love the duck! Art is really cool music makes me happy, the font is over the top and makes it hard to read certain things. It seems like a super interesting concept with lots of different strategies, really loved this one. Great job!

You know, I have a soft spot for cute little games, which let you relax for a short while. Especially those who incorporate the capitalism-born payment scheme and anxiety based law that is paying rent.
With Quackenfarm you get what you see. A nice way to pass a little time of the day. Or a **lot**

We love a cute protagonist duck. I tried very hard to get him to pay his rent, and I am apparently unfit for the job. But I still had a great time playing, and the music is lovely!

Wow, this was great! Felt really polished and that soundtrack was... unexpectedly jazzy.

I feel like, if you were interested in taking this any further, I'd love to see some kind of campaign with upgrades to your farm and tools!

Great work!

Graphics are great, the sounds are amazing, and the music is superb! I really enjoy the experience. Still a bit confused about when I can move or not. After I plant, I can't move, but if I do something else after I plant, I can move. I will definetly play the game more. Thank you!

I love the art! I included it in my Ludum Dare compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/PKNtuuCFWt0

That certainly didn't *feel* like a compo game. Very polished and slick. The tutorial is a little clunky, but hey, for a compo game it was fantastic. The little details and movement, the soundtrack, everything is just so smooth. A very impressive entry.

the gameplay loop felt nice. The art was simple and appealing. There was one glitch in the game where harvesting just stops working for some plants. Besides that, I really enjoyed this game. Good job!

Pretty decent gameplay loop but I think I figured out the optimal way to play pretty quickly. But at some point harvesting stopped working for me (v1.0.0) so I don't know how far I would have gotten and if the weeds would've done anything to throw a wrench in my strat.

Other than that hiccup, nice game, nice music, nice duck, good stuff!

Thank you for streaming and reviewing my game even though I wasn't there to see it live!

I like your game concept, it's fun running around, planting and growing things and strategizing how to plant so that harvesting is efficient.

I thinks some of the UX/UI could be improved, for example showing an area of effect on the action I have selected around the mouse. I also had an issue of wasting turns because of that, but for a compo that's totally understandable!

The art style is cute and the audio is fitting. I was hoping for a few quacks :)

Great job and thank you again!

Love the music! Also really like that this game was done turn based, made the time management much more interesting!
