Utterly not by uthamon
UTTERLY NOT is a jamtroidvania game about UTTERLY NOT being the monster. Collect 3 power-ups, complete the game to know what it has to with the theme and unlock additional hardcore difficulty mode. Regular mode takes about 10-15 minutes to complete and hc difficult mode should take around half an hour, it's much more harder, but there are also more checkpoint. I really recommend to make it through and see both endings. :)
Game was made by me solo, but I would like to opt-out for a little bit of code (drawing dialogue) which I made earlier and music, which is made by Rainbow Kitten (http://rainbowkitten.bandcamp.com/)
Controls:
arrows keys - move
z - shoot
x - jump (EDIT: since You gave me feedback that jumping is sometimes difficult, I kinda need to write that it's possible to just walk of a ledge and jump slightly later - it helps with more difficult jumps.)
alt+enter - fullscreen, but it's not polished

So... it was pretty exciting and now I'll get to try all Your games. Awesome. I must say, that first few hours I didn't really have any strict idea for a game, but then I thought about implementing certain ending and mixing that with simplified metroidvania. I've aimed at jam from the start, but I think that next time I'll try the compo.

and nice level-design, i like it =)
Good job man
If you can make a more native executable I'd be glad to have a zipped version. thanks!
Also, what did you except? P)
The Rainbow Kitten music was good and fit well. The jumping sound effect can be a bit distracting though.
The last jump over the second spike pit was a bit too difficult for me, I did get across it sometimes but it feels like the collision mask might be a bit too pixel-perfect. I would've liked a bit more liberty with where-from I can jump and still make it across.
The part with the 3 moving blocks was a nightmare even after I figured out what to do. Also I managed to completely miss the breakable wall so got stuck for quite a while backtracking aimlessly.
The deaths were very harsh on the eyes/ears, but fitting for the hardcore nature of the game :)
As for HC mode.... *turns and flees*
Anyway, well made. Infuriatingly specific jumps, though. Decent sound and graphics, and seems to be pretty polished. Nice!
Aside q: How did you store the map? Is it one giant matrix of tiles?
