Gravitational Shift by OneSmallBoy

[raw]
made by OneSmallBoy for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

You were minding your own business until a blackhole appeared out of nowhere and engulfed you in its power.

Gravity within the blackhole behaves very differently and it has become very unstable. Use it to your advantage to escape and get back home. Good Luck!

W/A/S/D or Arrow keys to move. Left Mouse Button to shoot when it's accessed.

Gravitational Shift was created over the course of 3 days for the Minimalist Game Jam and Ludum Dare 49.

The limitation was only using geometric for assets for the Minimalist Game Jam which I liked very much as I'm not the greatest artist. The theme for Ludum Dare was 'Unstable' and I thought of Gravity being unstable.

All art, code, and music created by me - OneSmallBoy

Sounds effects were unfortunately not made by me.

P.S If you are stuck on Level 7, try shooting the Gravity Box

Really love the art style of your game! I feel the movement was a little bit sluggish, and some of the puzzles were a bit frustrating to time, but overall I really enjoyed playing this game.

Once the shooting mechanics kicked in, this game got _real_. I appreciate the tutorial, and I liked that I got to the end!

@ildfuglen Thanks for the feedback. Yes, when I think about it now I should've had someone playtest the levels to get rid of anything that was frustrating. Thanks for playing!

It is little game but i felt the theme wasn't used properly

Shooting was a nice addition, the game makes much more sense with it. The movement felt unnecessarily sluggish.

This was pretty great. I could definitely see a more polished version of this working on mobile. The first few levels did a really good job of explaining the core mechanics.

Great game, I had to finish it :). It reminded me of my youth playing Crazy Machines :D

You've made a fun game! Appreciate the in-game tutorial and liked the sound effects and mechanics. I found the music didn't quite match the theme, but the simple graphics work well and the puzzles were fun and creatively composed. Nice work!

I liked how you increase the difficulty and introduce new mechanics to keep it entertaining.

@spider-developer Well in the game, gravity is constantly changing so therefore it is unstable. That's just how I interpreted the theme.

I really like the game idea! The slow introduction of the difficulty works well and the changes in gravity by shooting the gravity blocks makes this game pop! Well done!

I think the idea is fun and the difficulty curve is pretty good. I played until the 10th level because the projectile stopped colliding with the arrows for some reason. The graphics are pretty nice and simple too.

This was a great little game! I beat the whole thing and I think it has a lot of potential! The only real criticism I have is that the movement felt way too slidy and unresponsive. Other than that, I think you have an awesome thing going here. I really love the way you did your main menu screen. It acted as a tutorial which I thought was pretty smart. Great work!

@mrchippy Thanks for your feedback. Yeah I'm sorry about that issue with the collisions, others have also experienced it. I'm not sure what the actual cause of it is though. Sorry about that but thanks for playing and commenting, appreciate it.

Nice concept. I've seen the gravity shifting mechanic done before, but I've never seen it combined with shooting, and it worked well. The level design was really good, and you had a good difficulty curve. Unfortunately I hit a bug on level 12 where the gravity arrows stopped responding to being shot, so I had to give up there.

@asimir Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated. I'm sorry about that bug, I've had other people run into it too including myself and it annoyed me quite a bit. I think the one way to get around it is to restart the game but that means losing progress. I'm sorry about that but thanks for playing anyway.

Awesome game, I always enjoy games like this one, VVVVVV for example though I know is not exactly the same. Nice work! For me the only thing that can be improved is the actual speed of the cube, I feel its really slow sometimes.
