Chaotic Cadence by tweexmusic

[raw]
made by tweexmusic for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

Chaotic Cadence is a shoot 'em up where you must destroy the evil diamonds before they destroy you or before you run out of time! They move and shoot according the rhythm and tempo of the music playing!

This is the first game I've ever tried to make by myself and it has been an absolute blast!Screen Shot 2021-10-03 at 6.50.18 PM.png

Apologies, but it appears there is only a source download do you have an official release download.

Graphics are simple, but good. BUT AUDIO! *CHEF'S KISS*

The dopamine is so satisfying, I can only say that the game just needs more visual flare like crunchier explosions. That's weird, I know. It's awesome!

Love bumping into enemies to wreck them. Music is also amazing as usual.

Music and sound are amazing! I thought the feedback for shots, hits, damage, etc was nice and satisfying. Steamrolling enemies at the end of the level was oh-so-satisfying. I thought the controls were a little on the floaty side, mainly that I kept sliding into enemy bullets when I meant to stop. There was one time when I was up a little higher and a wave of enemies spawned touching me – some warning of where they will spawn might be good. Also, both I and the enemies could go past the left and right edges of the screen.

The mac build seems to be archived wrong – when I picked “direct download”, it gave me a zip of the “Contents” folder that is supposed to go inside the app, but not the app itself. I was able to run it my making a new folder, putting the “Contents” folder inside it, then renaming the containing folder with the “.app” extension.

@dalep Thanks so much for playing; I really appreciate the physics feedback! I'm excited to learn more about how to fine tune it in the future! Also, thank you for letting me know about the jank-y Mac download; I hadn't zipped it but have now changed that :)!

@mitjmcc Thanks man; you guys killed with your jam!!

@supergamersgames I really appreciate the review!! I'm hoping to learn more about how to use Unity's visual tools to greater effect in the future!

I'll be honest I was initially put off by the simple graphics but after playing it it actually seems quite nice! Good audio and effects, all round well done! Some recommendations: 1.maybe let us hold down the button to shoot continuously instead of having to keep clicking 2.make the enemy projectiles have a smaller hitbox than the sprite so it is more lenient on the player 3.maybe consider using a less contrasting and more harmonious palette, try searching up "minimalist games" (this 3rd one is my personal preference tho). Anyways good luck on future projects!

Hey there! I really loved this game, it's a super simple and effective concept executed really well! The visuals were very clean, and I found myself getting really immersed in trying to beat the last level. Well done!

As a fellow audio/music person, the audio is awesome! The music itself is really fitting to the game and definitely brought me into the experience more, and the sound design was really clean and provided great feedback. I love the idea of having the enemies movement and firing line up with the music, I am a sucker for any music-related mechanics. I think the subtlety of that system didn't fully translate in the super high-paced gameplay where enemies were dying left and right. But I really love the vibe of the music and I always love it when it's tied to other gameplay systems.

Great job, I had a really great time!

Fun, and feels very polished. I wish there was something more about it to make it unique, and differentiate it a bit more from other arcade-y shoot em ups of this type. Also not sure how it fits the theme?

For a first game though, this is really good = definitely keep going! I bet you can make some cool stuff in the future.

Always love hearing more synth music. Really enjoyed the movement speed of the player and the responsive controls. I wish there was more rhythmic stuff besides just the enemy shots, but the pulsing border was a nice addition. Graphics felt much too basic, but it didn't hinder my ability to play, and it wasn't ugly, so no big deal there. Well done!

Not bad for a first game! The sound design is absolutely fantastic, and going Super Saiyan at the end of levels and charging through lines of enemies is super satisfying!

This was a really smart more for your first solo run. There was plenty of time for you to really focus on polish and atmosphere. The minimalistic use of a few vibrant colors coupled with the music pulls everything together to create this really cool chill vibe. I love it. Also, that font you chose makes me really happy lol. And it obviously goes without saying, but the music is on point. And your understanding of timing also really elevates this.
