ReSTARTeD by Sinclair

[raw]
made by Sinclair for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

Our game is about an Archer who is looking to defeat the three bosses without getting hit. Our idea was if they get hit, they become "unstable". The only character this applies to is the last one, they will not be able to see much around them if they are touched.

This game started as a husband and wife duo but had a lot of complications throughout the process. The first day after working for 12 hours straight, the engine failed us, making us lose all our progress. Getting back into it Saturday, we pushed all day long only to discover at midnight we could not execute the game due to licensing.

Realizing Monday was around the corner we asked for support from our programmer friend. We restarted everything... again, we also remade the characters and animations as well. We worked from Saturday midnight until moments before 6pm Monday. As a bunch of our ideals for instability were not able to be conveyed through our game, we did still have a ton of instability with the making of our game, hence the name ReSTARTeD.

We hope you enjoyed our game and we hope to be able to bring more games at the next Game Jam Thank you Ludum Dare for the opportunity to be unstable and bring you ReSTARTeD.

Getting more unstable with each hit is a good concept, I also found the graphics nice. It would have been interesting to play if each boss would have had their own effect. Also, it took me a bit to figure out that the cloud was the first boss.

Hey there! So sorry to hear about your development woes. I appreciate the willpower and drive to regroup and still finish with something playable. You managed to cram some diversity in the art and music department, which is commendable, as those are often left behind under time pressure.

I struggled a little bit with this one, as far as the experience goes. The gameplay is, as you know, a little rough and it was hard to get a sense of what you were going for with each boss. Definitely, with some more time and care, I could see this being a little deeper. With some light story elements wrapping the experience to get the player up to speed with the motivations of the character and to tie the theme in more deliberately.

Thanks for putting the time in and producing your game, and best of luck with future dev!

Cute game!! I like the concept and idea too!! I like that each boss has a different attack pattern. I think with more time, some additional feedback stuff e.g hitsounds/anims/particle fx would be good.

Overall, good effort!! I still had fun!

I think the concept you have is very cool! You managed to make a very complete entry despite the difficulties~ I really liked how you had different art and environments for each level!

Also very sweet you two can work together as a team~ I’ve been doing the last two Dare’s with my boyfriend. Best of luck for your next entries!
