A survival-builder game about an island with an unstable volcano at the center.

---HOW TO PLAY---

SURVIVE THE VOLCANO

If you survive the 3 rounds of the volcano eruption, you win!

But watch out! If the lava of the volcano touches the water, a dangerous acid rain will cover the island killing all the people. If this happens, you lose...

Each round the volcano generates 1 lava block that.

RAISE A TROPICAL VILLAGE

You can build structures to stop the lava advance:

  • House (Cost: 50 Food) (Health: 50): Gives 1 People.
  • Farm (Cost: 50 Food | 2 People) (Health: 100): Generates 10 Food every 5 seconds.

Each lava block has 100 points of health and needs to destroy the structure before moving to the next tile. So you can build 2 Houses on the way and eliminate the lava block, for example.

RESOURCES

  • Food
  • People

Pleasant graphics, all round nice atmosphere. Just surrounding the volcano with houses as meat shields seem like the best strategy. Nice one!

Really fun!

interesting concept. you can actually terraform using rmb, to extend the 6 directions where the lava has to flow (before it erupts).

it also has nice graphics and a soundtrack that fits

Very cool. I think it would be a nice addition if you added that text about why you lost, then there wouldn't be a need for a readme :)

There was something about timing, like building a house once the lava is moving to that tile doesn't seem to count?

A cool take on a city builder! Having to use structures as a sacrifice is a nice idea that I'd be interested to see taken further!

Having an in-game tutorial that explains things would be nice, but I appreciate that in a jam, that can take a while for a game like this.

Good job!

Nice game, but I put the house in the middle of the lava and it won't stop, I don't know why

Cute concept, maybe would be nice to have more building types so I wouldn't have to sacrifice villagers. Good Job!

Very cute concept, especially loved the start animation and the water movement - might have failed my first run by looking at it :D The music is a banger as well

Maybe a way to drop the house while having it "on" the cursor would be nice. But pretty cool concept overall.
Quite Good

Those're some nice, polished graphics! The gameplay was easy to understand, but I felt like it was a little slow at times. If you wanted the game to become a little more hectic, speeding up the timers as well as adding additional building types might be the trick to taking this game to the next level. But I'd say it was impressive work nonetheless.

The concept is interesting, but the gameplay feels a little too simple: you build one mill, and then just always keep 100 food to place two houses once the eruption starts. But the potential is there.

The graphics were good. The gameplay I think could have used some more attention... it wasn't clear what to do at first, although I was able to figure it out... but it definitely could have used more feedback, a tutorial, or something along those lines to explain what was happening. The UI elements were also very intrusive (they took up half the screen) and made it harder to see what was going on. I also noticed that the game world was still interactable when the mouse was over a UI element.

@oneiromancer thanks! yeah I know, the original idea was to have more buildings and more volcano attacks with different lava types. But the idea was a little too much for a gamejam

@doomshmuck thanks for the feedback! there was no time for a tutorial, so I had to write instructions on the ludum dare page
About the UI I have to adjust it properly for every resolution, what is yours?
Yeah, that is a known bug :/

@laurawilkinson yeah haha the original idea was to have a building called "Wall" with much health than a House

@tomasaquistapace yes that is a big problem. It happens cause' the lava block checks if the next hextile has a building once before moving. I must refactor the whole lava system because its a buggy messy rn.

@tom-robson thanks! yes a tutorial for a city builder is a little complex for a jam haha

Dam so we're sacrificing our resources to keep the lava from killing us all? It's pretty fun to do tbh. The music helps a lot! A very catchy track. The graphics are really cute as well! Love the overall vibe.

Great work!

Human versus the nature is a nice theme! Graphic is satisfying, I love the animation of the windmill and the volcano. The game pace is a bit slow and easy, if there is more way to against the volcano then the game can be more dynamic. Overall it's very great as a jam game, great work guys!

Hey! Nice small game! Well, the mechanics are interesting but it is sort of obvious how to beat it. No challenge at all :) Anyways, great job! Thanks!

Nice little game I see you had to pivot because of time but I see what you were going for. The music and visuals go very well with each other and I'd be interested to play a full version of this if you do make one

Cool idea. I love the effect of the map showing up on the screen. I don't like sounds in the background that much to be honest. Besides that, good job!
