Tu Es Monstre? by jodizzle

[raw]
made by jodizzle for LD33 (COMPO)
EDIT EDIT:
Since the LD33 voting period has ended, I've placed the updated version into a main "official" link. I've also improved the game a bit beyond just adding a restart button, and I may continue to improve it into the future.

Thanks for everyone who played, voted and/or commented on my not-so-great game! :)

EDIT:
http://jodizzle.github.io/monster-game-remix/ -- NOW WITH RESTART BUTTON
https://github.com/jodizzle/monster-game-remix -- SOURCE

Several people commented that the game should have a restart button. I agreed, and a version that has a restart button and the corresponding source are available at the above links. No other features have been added or changed. As per the rules, I am not altering the main links (or the embed copy above), but you may as well play the updated version unless you like refreshing.

Platformer
Things get harder the longer you survive; play for the highest humanity.

Controls:
Left and right arrow keys to move
z - perform a big jump
x - perform a little jump

Background:
A creature originally created in 1879 for purposes of war, you were all but forgotten by society, locked into a period of extended gestation as a measure of mercy by your creator. Now, after 21 long years, a fault in your programming has set you free! -- only for you to soon discover the more terrible faults of modern humanity. In a violent, apocalyptic, shattered and alien reality, it is up to you to demonstrate that your elongated birth-process has not only improved your strength and speed, but also the muscle the 20th century needs the most right now: Your Heart.

The army is out to capture you and tries to frame you as a monster by firing live humans from the skies! They can't kill you, but you can kill them! Prove yourself human by putting them out of their misery with super-CPR! Save the world!

Interesting take on the endless runner/platformer. Cool background story.

I like the backstory but the rest of the game doesn't do it justice.
Refreshing every time I want another session is annoying.

Cool idea! There's a bug using the big jump. (The player is jumping again and again.)
note in case: I don't heard any sounds or musics...

I really liked the concept! Nice way of communicating the idea of "saving humanity by having a heart" through the gameplay. A few sound effects and a replay function would have improved the game a lot! :)

Really hilarious background and aesthetic. It's a shame you couldn't get more done with the final product. Better luck next time, I guess.

Congrats on the entry!

I like endless runners and platformers when they're done well -- but it feels so austere right now. There's zero atmosphere (no music, no sound, no ambience), the controls feel clunky to me, and the artwork... I don't quite know what to make of it.

Graphics are a bit strange but I think the game is funny. The idea of avoiding to eat humans is cool, too. Just one thing: a restart button would be handy. Keep going with it!

Nice backstory. I played the updated version with the Restart button after playing a few times of the original version. For this style of game and difficulty, the iteration time is pretty important. I was caught by the army numerous times before I even hit 5 points. It was pretty challenging backtracking to gather points, while dodging the new oncoming falling humans and landing on a platform. I enjoyed the difficulty of game, but missed hearing sound effects and background music. Though, I have only done LD jams and if I did the compo, 48 hours and extra constraints would cause me to consider audio only if time allowed.

Nice entry and fun to play!

It's a horizontal doodle jump.
Throw living people to make you guilty, that's horrible :o
Pretty fluid, that's nice

Interesting idea, maybe if you add some features it can be challenge-able.

The challenge is nice but the text in the middle of the screen never disappear while playing. Also when I die I have to refresh the page in order to retry as there is no retry button, I was just jumping in a black screen with the score showing.
It would have been nice to see more.
But don't get it wrong, as long as I was alive I enjoyed jumping around :)
For a compo entry you did well.
