Uns' Table by ValidDark
Entry for LD49
Uns the Minotaur raided a caravan and found himself a rather nice table. But after setting it up he realized the table was unstable, which upset him so Uns flips the table.
WARNING: Unstable animals have been spotted in the area, They may explode on contact.
This is my first time doing a Ludum Dare Gamejam, I'm happy with the result. It was a solo project.

Grass and Trees from: Stylized Forest
Table and Table Items from: Alchemist's House
Foxes and Crows from: Animal Variety Pack
Buttons and other GUI elements are from previous projects.
Everything else was made by me in under 72 hours.
There is a bug in the buy menu, each upgrade only goes up to level 4 but it will let you buy additional levels that don't do anything. (each extra upgrade does increase the amount of food spawned at the start of each flip, so buying the extra pointless upgrades does something, just not much.)
If you like the game, follow me on Twitter
!!!!UPDATE!!!!
Since the majority of the comments have complained about the camera I went and added a camera option to the main menu. WARNING: The new camera is unstable.
Don't enable the new camera while the table is upside down. or do, I can't stop you. Just remember I gave fair warning #####

Charming though. Can't believe you put the agdg logo in the corner after i told you not to! 10/10
It's not like I asked you in the first place. :smirk:
I'm glad people seem to be enjoying it, with the camera decision being the main complaint people have.
I fixed the size issues plaguing the first version and have uploaded a new one that's around 335MB and runs a bit smoother.
It'd be easy to add a little checkbox or something on the menu for changing the camera to a more traditional style if the complaint keeps coming up. I just don't want to make changes to the game since the jam is over, it'd be like cheating. Just a little thing for the camera might be fine though since it's quality of life and not a gameplay change.
I'm conflicted on the matter.
This can be a starting point for an entertaining game. I imaging it running on mobile.
For the camera, you can try to make it follows the table but not be attached to the table, and then just add some shake and juicyness when the table collide with objects. It's just my opinion but could be more enjoyable.
Good Job and keep dev!
This game can work better if you add a nice feedback for everything a player can do (pressing a button, or the sounds of the table hitting something), to reward him for playing.
Paying for powerups encourage the player to unlock them, and to receive more feedback while playing.
You had a good idea, keep working and testing!
pretty interesting to see one of these in 3D, kinda nostalgic.
i feel there's an important flaw here which is the sense of progression. these games are (were?) fun because you start out from doing almost no distance (as in this game) to getting consistently increasing ridiculous distances (compared to what you could initially do). but in this game, after you get a few upgrades (mainly flip strength, i think), it doesn't make much of a difference, you're always going to get more or less the same distance, and it doesn't seem to increase even if you buy more upgrades.
further detracting from this is the fact table falls out of the 2D plane once it touches ground and falls over, leaving you unable to collide with any of the boosting elements, so it's pretty much up to luck how far you get, because 90% of the time, if you touch the ground it's over.
disregarding the fact the camera might give you a seizure, it's pretty unsatisfying because you can't see the progress very well, even if you're actually moving forwards.
i also have no idea what "Boost Power" and "Multi Hit" do. i'm assuming these would be skills that let the player actively boost the table during flight (something that is also lacking and makes it less fun) but i found no way to activate them.
the UI is kinda haphazard (stretched and reused textures etc.) but i'll forgive it for being a jam game, i don't like making UIs either. feel like using nine patch rects would've been an easy fix for making some things look better but i don't know how that works in unreal engine.
the whole thing with the title and the game fitting into the theme is pretty funny i'll admit, also the things that you have to hit and how they explode. camera is also a bit funny.
also the bonus and animation for the table landing correctly is a nice touch

yeah the table clips through the scenery sometimes
Most creative use of the theme so far
Thank you for requesting this gameplay!
