A Senator's Sacrifice by James Wilson

[raw]
made by James Wilson for Ludum Dare 49 (COMPO)

A Senator's Sacrifice is platform puzzle game where you must attempt to escape Pompeii at any cost necessary. Not all of your fellow senators will be able to escape, sacrifices will have to be made. Find your way amongst the ruined temple and look for the light as you jump your way through 12 levels. The stability of the structure is in critical condition. Choose your movement carefully as bounce may be your last.

I like your take on the theme !
Beautifuly executed both visualy and in terms of gameplay !
I had a bit of trouble on some jump combos, but that was to be expected of a puzzle game.

Very nice job !

Clever idea with limiting the jumps, 5 stars on the unstable theme. Would've been nice to have some falling rocks or dust or so to add some flair but I am very aware how limiting 48h are :D

The air controls could use some work and make some sections more difficult than they should be. But apart from that, very cool game, good job!

Great idea for a game, I had a hard time figuring out some of the puzzles but getting them right was very rewarding. I appreciate the animations for when the temple is breaking!

Super interesting use of the theme, a very well rounded package considering this is a Compo entry, very very well done! :D

When I read the title, I had an idea what this game would be about. How foolish I was.
Interesting approach to the theme. I liked the implementation of the mechanics and the strategy element of the bounces.
Well done!

Very cool and unique use of the theme! The choice of setting was great and the jumping felt really nice, I didn't feel at the mercy of the same whenever I had to make a jump that required more precision. Nicely done tutorial as well, really solid all around!

This was fun! I wish the player's acceleration was a little higher because I felt like the puzzle elements were neat to figure out but executing the solution was difficult. The max speed was right where it needed to be, but I was often overshooting where I wanted to be.

The graphics were really good and worked well. The temple was well realized and I enjoyed the senators just sitting around and chatting while the entire temple was collapsing. I also agree that Gaius' wife looks like a horse.

A creative take on the theme, got up to about halfway, I would have preferred the player to have quicker acceleration/deceleration but interesting mechanic and good potential.

Cool idea and well executed sounds and graphics. I thought the movement felt a little sluggish which made some of the platforming a little harder than it needed to be, but otherwise great job especially considering the time constraints

I liked the execution here. A great idea for a puzzle platformer that works as a solid prototype.
