Ascent from Haydes by Nnnnneeeedddd

[raw]
made by Nnnnneeeedddd for LD33 (COMPO)
Ascent from Haydes.

So it is based of an old-style dungeon crawler, like DungeonMaster 2.
I think it went quite well.

The controls are explained in the game.

You will need OpenGL 3.0.

I hope you guys like it, because I think this is hands down, my best Ludum Dare. There isn't a menu or anything because there wasn't time.

Warning:
The game is only tested on windows!!

Nice game :-) I got lost somewhere in the second(?) level, and my weapon was taken from me. Maybe I dropped it, who knows :-)

The game looks great. You've captured the spirit and mechanics of the old dungeon crawlers pretty well. Mo only complains are:
1. The interface is pretty cluttered. You could have removed the armour UI piece, since it was never put into the game.
2. Why does the game suddenly stop when you right click?

But, overall it's a pretty good game.

I found this game quite good overall, I liked the overall mechanics and found the controls that others might find clunky actually quite nice to use, I found this dungeon crawler really fun and it suited the theme nicely, I really loved the retro dungeon crawler art style and found that the darkness vibe I was getting made the mood excellent, the sound effects were good but I think the fact that there's no sound track puts down the quality of the game a bit, really good job overall good job.

Neat! I wish there was some goal and sense to everything happening, and I also wish I didn't lose my knife while going through the first portal (guess, I was "holding" it in my mouse, and the game transports either only me or me and what I have in my 3 slots).
Still very cool though. A good base for a full-fledged dungeon-crawling game if you ever want to make one. :)

Neat a raycaster :D
Playing restrained by the grid was annoying but it was still really fun :)
I would have liked to have some sort of message saying I died instead of just closing the game. The first time I died I thought the game crashed xD

Looks pretty. Controls can be a bit clunky - I kept accidentally dropping the knife. I managed to complete it.

Nice entry ! I liked the graphics and there is obviously a lot of work in this game. It's a bit difficult to move and the game could be a little more challenging but that was rather fun :)

Pretty good game over all. Obviously it wasn't finished, you said so yourself, but it is still interesting for a Legend of Grimrock clone (or a clone of whatever Legend of Grimrock was a clone of).

Something that should be said, though: The game crashes if you click a slime without a weapon.
