Falling Rock by snip_man

[raw]
made by snip_man for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

A game about a rock that fell off a mountain. You control a stone that can roll left and right and jump. Work your way down the mountain, and past the caves.

Everything was drawn in paint(I'm no artist) I made this in about 12 hours and I am kicking myself for not starting sooner.

Controls

A & D for rolling

Space for Jump

Escape to Quit

Small Update: Fixed some bugs and some graphics that were clipping. Also changed the start of the levels to help with the feel of changing scenes. Also added a timer for fun and a goofy end screen. Thanks for the feed back :)

The concept feels like it has a lot of potential. To forget your work for 3 minutes, this game is really nice.
(I played it on itch.io as WebGL version)

You should _definitely_ update your LD listing to not attribute the link type as 'source code'!
I was looking for a quick HTML5 hosted game to play and almost skipped this one.

I absolutely loved the commitment to hand painting a big pile of silly graphics.
The log and grass on the first level stand out especially.

Its not super cohesive level to level, but I was _very sure_ we were getting Deeper and Deeper.
Nice work

Good game especially as you did it in 12 hours. It kinda feelt like sonic since I you can go soooooo fast.

Such a simple concept seems like it should be boring, but this was actually super fun and very relaxing. Slap a new coat of paint on there and add some chill tunes, and this would fly off app store shelves. The physics felt good (wish the bounce as a little higher, but I understand it's a rock), and the level design had great pacing. Graphics are not amazing, but that doesn't detract from the enjoyment at all.

That's the best programmer art I have ever seen. Good job. Had fun playing it.

Wish there was a score or something of the sort. At first I thought I only had to jump, so that's why I imagined this being a best score kind of game, but I was wrong. Afterwards, I was able to beat the game. Once again, good job!

@windfall890 Thanks. I didn't realize I had set it to source code. I was dead tired when I submitted it.

It definitely feels like you're controlling a rock. It has inertia, and it can't jump. I kinda wish it looked more like a rock instead of a marble. At first it felt too low effort, but the level pacing and environments spiced it up a bit. I think you know the graphics need some love. Overall it wasn't my favorite experience, but this is indeed a game, and for a moment I was vibing and imagining what it's really like to tumble down a mountain.

I loved the ending! I don't want to type it on here because spoilers, but it was great. Reminds me a bit of Alto's Adventure (mobile) but personally I prefer being a rock.

I love falling rock, I wish I could be falling rock just cruising down the mountain all day. I even activated the secret level where you go so fast you fly into the mountain and just hang around in the earth, that was pretty chill. Genuinely one of the most enjoyable games I've played this Jam, something very satisfying about the simplicity of just cruising on down and down. Very nice movement, Nice work. I was hoping I could start again and cruise down the other side of the mountain but alas... Well done!

Best Sonic game of 2021? Maybe! I had alot of fun playing this as simple as the concept was, though the lava stage hurt my eyes after a bit.

A simple concept well executed! I liked the momentum and controls. It was fun once I manage to gain some speed.
Well done!

This was a fun experience! I liked the "ah-ha moment" as I figured out I needed to use jump when on vertical surfaces to push me past certain obstacles. I think the smallest change you could make that would improve the experience is have the camera let the player see ahead. In its current implementation, the player is basically blind as to what is coming up so cannot actually make any strategic decisions about when / where to jump. Overall, a solid little physics-game concept you have here! Well done!

Nice, fun game! I actually enjoyed the graphics, something nostalgic about the ms paint style! Sometimes I did feel like the game was a bit unfair in the placement of jumps and stuff but luckily the respawn was quick and never far away. Great job! :D

Hey! Cool idea for a game! I like the design of the skeleton characters:) It would be really nice to hear some music in the background. The camera should follow the ball faster. Sometimes we loose it from sight. Besides this, I had a lot of fun playing this game! Nice ending! Great work!

Very nice game, the main mechanic works very smoothly, and there is sufficient depth (literally). At the end location my immediate thought was "oh no, I am stuck", but then I quickly realized that's where I belonged :) Very wholesome title, congrats!

Wow, this was fun. Frustrating sometimes, but fun nonetheless! Feels like "Getting over it" reversed. Love the environment, how it turns from something cute into something darker and spicier! Took as quite some time to reach the end, but it was worth every second. Good job!
