Super cool concept! Loved the challenge the two sides brought. However the mirrored controls felt frustrating at times as the right side was typically where I was looking when trying to avoid something. Well done!

Hi! Thank you for a great game!

This is an extremely unusual experience that broke my brain, but I am very happy to try your game. This is a very interesting mechanic, similar to Medium. I am sure that it was Medium that became the reference for this game and it is very cool!

Of course, there are some shortcomings. For example, I didn't like the sounds. At all. The girl's crying sounds out of place. Music - also not from here and very much nozit after 5 levels.

Nevertheless, I think you have a very good game. Develop it! Good luck!

I really like this one. The art is looking crispy, the main mechanic is solid, and it has a great vibe. Given more time to polish some of the rough edges, I could spend a lot of time playing this. In particular, the collision on the hazards aren't very forgiving, and buffering the movement inputs would be a huge help. BTW, I didnt realize at first you needed to maximize the web player to see the entire room/rooms.

The art, theming and audio are overall amazing but I felt like puzzle variety was a bit lacking and felt pretty samey after a few levels but was a fun concept for a puzzle game. Hope I come across your work again in another jam :grin:

Great artwork. I really like the concept of the mirror / double-sided puzzle. The slowly darkening room really makes you keep moving. Great work!

The animations are genuinely really cool, they make this game stand out pretty nicely! Some bugs I noticed:

1. The game starts minimized, but you can't see the full game without going into full-screen. This confused me a bit at the beginning.
2. The death animation seems to replay when you respawn sometimes.

I agree with CorbenG's comment about the controls, but other than that it's pretty neat, and like I said, the graphics & animations are super cool.

I like the background music and it's a pretty fun puzzle game. Nice work!

I am a big fan of the sound effects, really gave me that sense of urgency that I don't want to be around when the lights turn off. I also enjoyed the puzzles, they were pretty challenging but, when you finally got the timing right, very satisfying. Dying did seem a bit weird, had a bug where I died twice whenever I died and then in one puzzle with the moving enemy at the very beginning, I was able to move despite being mid-death animation.

This is one of the more complete games I've reviewed. The artstyle and music are internally consistent, and the suite of animations is complete. The puzzles were well-executed.

Great animations (the death by ghost is my favourite). Sometimes it plays twice (surely a bug).
The gameplay is cool and the levels present it nicely.
The whisperings are a nice touch!

That was a lot of levels for a jam game! And the amount of cool animations, did you have an army of animators in your team? Great job and thanks for a web build! :ghost:

What an amazing game, I especially love the art with all those frame by frame animations! What a huge amount of art assets! I love the spooky theme! Extremely hard tonplay trough though!

A really nice concept, the audio and the graphics were really well done. Although the traps which you fall through felt a little unfair. Other than that, it was a really smooth experience. well done!

Lovely game, the art (music & sprites) is amazing, I wish I did such a good job :D the concept is quite simple, but very effective ! At the beginning, I had some trouble with the left/right mouvements because I was confused by the mirror effect haha

Hey everyone ! Thanks for playing ! I did the art and part of the game-design on Defiled Reflection.
I'll try to answer some of the questions.

@taigha
We didn't know about the game "The Medium" but it looks super cool. I really want to play it now.

We had plenty of ideas we couldn't implement in time and plenty more we got after uploading the game. Maybe we will add more later, when the Jam is over ;)
We did notice the issue with the game not being displayed fully without maximizing it in html5. It has been fixed.
The double death is not game-breaking so we did not fix it for the Jam. We will fix it when it is over though. Thanks for bringing that up to our attention.

@joonamo
Thanks ! I was able to focus mainly on the sprites for this project. I did more than expected.
It helps that I am a vampire and therefore do not need to sleep ;P

Very polished game, one of the best i've seen so far.
Gameplay is solid. I got caught off guard many times trying to "rush" a level.
I like the idea behind the story of the game.
The only thing i noticed that could be considered a bug is when you die and level restarts, you die again.'
Overall good experience, thanks for making it :)

So polished! I only wish I were better at it. I already can't tell my right from my left. So many accidental deaths with horrible screams to make me feel terrible for my little girl.

Omg it was so hard ha ha! have to think both side symmetrically and realy close timing.
Realy nice concept and good use of the obstacle, gg :)

Just thinking that the "blob" switching vertical to horizontal are not realy explicit with its animation, but i only noticed that ;)

Really great job, the mood is quite nice and spooky :) The mirror effect is a bit confusing but I guess it's the goal of it!

Nice puzzle game. Great art and oddly satisfying cry (I don't know, it's both off and weirdly fitting). That's a lot of levels for a 3 day-project but they're pretty well made, though some are a bit unfair, given the control scheme (which is frankly quite irritating. I feel like a smoother control would makes dodging moving enemies less frustrating.)
I also love the song though.

Very exciting gameplay! I was happy to play on these puzzles. And the graphics are very nice. But it seemed to me that the topic is not quite suitable. But for LD, this is an amazing find! Thank you for web version, btw!)

This was a cool entry and I liked the atmosphere it had.

Not game breaking, but seems like there's a small bug of the death animation playing twice. Once when I die for real, and then once when I load back to the starting position.

Overall great job!

It is difficult to implement easy/average/difficult during a game jam.
That said, you are spot on with your second commentary. An indicator of the level the player is at would be a soft reward so they can think "I've come this far" and/or "still that many level to go".

@denzil-gomes
Glad you liked the colors. We hesitated between red&blue and yellow& purple.

@sand-gardeners
Yup ! The main idea is for it to be confusing and upsetting. Which is why it is set in a ghostly manor.

Not exactly the novel concept - I have seen the "control n characters at once" a lot, in different fashions, especially on jams. But a pretty good implementation. Nice work on level design - challenging without being impossible, at least for me.

The artstyle is great. Especially character design is good and I was a little bit freaked out as I have seen the creepy face of the mirror version later :-D

For me the game was quite difficult, since because of the mirroring I messed up the controls a lot. ^^

Hi! I spent on playing this game a while! I forgot that I had the volume set to quite high level and then I died in this game :) Nice, scary sounds!!! I really like the art style and animations. The idle animation on the girl's face in the nightmare reflection looks awesome :) Game is really well balanced! Great job!

the animations and art style on this were really nice. I like the concept and you did a great job building the difficulty up. There was a bug that would sometimes cause me to die as soon as I respawned but it didn't really stop me enjoying the game :). The torches added some nice atmosphere! well done, good entry!

The art and mood of this is just fantastic. The I like that the puzzles contain both a strategy element of learning a path in addition to a skill element of getting the timing right. Its a bit challenging, and some of those timing windows are really tight, but I managed to make it through. Very well done.

Cool puzzle game. The bug that you die again afetr respawn is a bit annoying, as I am usually eager to try again fast, but it's nothign that breaks the gameplay. Also the art and overall atmosphere is nice. Well done

Thanks for playing and for sharing your playthrough!
Loved to see it. You were so close to the end. I think you still had 2 puzzles to solve to get to the ending "cutscene".

We know about the "die twice" bug but that was the first I saw it happen with the "falling animation"... Weird...
We'll look into it.
We plan to fix it once the jam is over.

Oh and you are right... We are evil. Mwahahahaha!

Fantastic game with a genius concept. Don't see a lot of puzzle games for this specific theme, so this is a very fresh and unique take. I love the mechanic, the art, the audio, everything deserves top marks in my opinion, everything is extremely cohesive. Solid and super polished entry! Hope you guys are proud of what you've accomplished, this is such a neat game! :D

Cool concept, beautiful art. I liked the early levels much more than the later ones. It became more like a skill game rather than a puzzle game, and it was a bit frustrating. Many times I found myself just waiting for the enemies to sync themselves so I could pass.

Since you asked for thoughts about the audio: I didn't really like it. I think you were going for a "scary" vibe, but the game looks so cartoonish and cute that it doesn't fit in my opinion. Still, I can appreciate the hard work that you put into it.

Good entry, keep it up!

Very polished. The idea for a puzzle was nice. The style felt fresh and the game had many impressive parts. The music lacked a bit. The loop was getting monotone very quickly, yet the sound effects were very well executed. The were some minor bugs, like the shreek would play two times, if you have stepped on a broken tile, but that isn't worth mentioning.

Congratulations on the game, the idea and art were very good, I would have a suggestion to make your game more dynamic and end up making the player miss, try to put a short time for the player to finish each level so the player does not stay long waiting the best time to pass, a big hug to everyone, and I await your evaluations regarding my game.

Great concept supported by beautiful art! I preferred the levels that required simply moving in the right way and not depend so much on the speed of movement... yeah, getting old :slight_smile:. The music was perhaps a bit too repetitive but otherwise it seemed very polished. Hope to see more from you, keep up the good work!

Interesting game, sometimes making the right move was challenging because of the mirror. Art style and audio were nice, trap doors sound scaried me a lot of times XD Well done!

Overall, a very interesting game. It is very normal for us to use references from our repertoire. This game uses the same mechanics as Famicom's "Binary Land" game. I played a LOT of that game.
Positive point of the game: Art.
Negative point: Controls. The answer is very lens and it makes it too difficult to get through the fastest monsters. I gave up on a stage that has two parallel skulls with different speed. I spent about 15 minutes trying to pass and the controls don't respond to the speed of the touch.

Congratulations for the game.
