drillerROBOT by Yamzho
Here's my entry for LD48 !
drillerROBOT is a game where you control a robot to drill as deep as possible. Collect uranium on your way down to use as energy, collect diamonds to get cards that you can play when needed (you'll understand when you'll play!).
Controls : - Arrows to move the robot. - Keys 1 to 6 to play the cards.
EDIT : Added a .exe file for Windows users who don't want to bother with Java.

My best score is 243. I thought it was bad but after several playthrough im quite proud ^^ Do the yellow blocks cost less to dig than the brown ones?
@feralpoodles Thanks for the fb ! I figured that diamonds and uranium looked too close, but I did not have enough time to change it.
The cards mechanics probably could be expanded.
The downsides - it is not very clear how to start the game. The opening screen shows you all kind of details and texts, and does not mention pressing R to start the game. Had to get into the comment section to figure it out.
Also you probably could mention that lava tiles are dangerous not only for their tile but for adjacent tiles as well. It kind of makes sense, but I had to learn it the hard way.
Also the game only runs in borderless non-fullscreen mode and wouldn't allow do adjust the size of the screen. A minor gripe but still somewhat soured the game experience.
The cards mechanics could have been expanded, but with time lacking (and probably the lack of sleep that led me not to think of any other), I couldn't put more of them in the game. But I intend to add some in a future version (after the votes are closed).
Concerning the opening screen, it does mention the R button, but i have to admit, it is not clear enough (it is embeded in the text and easily missed). I should have probably split all these info into different screens. I also realise now that it is not clear for everyone that you need to play the first card to start the game. I'll work on making it more obvious.
Finally, concerning the borderless screen, I should have probably avoided it.
Again, thanks a lot for the very useful feedback ! :) I'll play your entry as soon as I can !
@niterich Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate !
@pd-dev Oh, I am sorry for that ! I'll try to fix this tonight (I guess it can count for critical bugfixing allowance)

Congrats, one of the best games I tried so far!
Great submission, I really enjoyed this one!
Oh, and I may as well share my best score:

One thing that could be improved: the text on cards is pretty small. Combined with the lack of ability to resize, it's slightly annoying. Nothing game-breaking and could be fixed afterwards, more or less easily depending on your engine.
Also kudos for distribution a .jar (cross platform points!)
Your UI is greatly polished, it looks really nice.
The background music is a little too loud for me, but it works for the atmosphere, and I think the tiles are flashing too fast when you dig, a smooth animation moving the tiles up could be nicer to the eye :smile:
Good job !
Also, you generally shouldn't remove the window borders unless you're replacing them or if you're using full screen. It makes your game a bit awkward when it's partially blocking your screen and you can't move it at all. There are also accessibility issues I believe but I'm by no means an expert in that area. You can just turn off resizing if that's why you removed them. And Java, from what I remember when I used it, makes it fairly easy to style the window border if you just didn't like the look.

I noticed a few green uranium "cloud" effects lingering after the uranium was gone.
I found the initial help screen to be a bit confusing with the all the info and arrows. I think clicking through the help bubbles one at a time would be good improvement.
Otherwise really good job! :)
Ps: j'ai été bloqué à une partie avec -70 de fuel et le jeu ne prenait pas en compte que je pouvais plus rien faire :/ (D'ailleurs peut-être que il faudrait interdire le passage en négatif ?)
Little commentary in French! Already I love the graphics even if they are quite simple, the maps are really a good idea, it allows to add a bit of randomness in the game even if sometimes I never have the map I need x) C is a really great game, well done!
Ps: I was stuck in a game with -70 fuel and the game did not take into account that I could do nothing: / (Besides, maybe we should prohibit the passage in negative?)
@barelyevengames @poweranze Thanks a lot for broadcasting my little robot ! :)
@legolula Thanks a lot ! And I am already working on a post compo version (you can already try the current progression on my itch.io page). ;)
@phlebas @blue05 Thanks ! I admit the first screen could be done another way, that would have helped...
@justinmullin 443 ? Not bad ! Thanks a lot for the feedback !
@slowfrog-again @jogy34 Yeah, my mistake on the borderless frame. The post compo version will display the game fullscreen, so this will fix this issue and the 'small text' issue. Thanks for your feedback !
@srynetix Working on this ! :) Thanks for the feedback !
@emil-kosz I don't have any Linux installed on any of my computers. I ship the linux version completely untested. Sorry for the sound issue... Thanks for playing it anyways !
@adam-selker @vetu11 Thanks a lot ! More cards and blocks are coming ! I was struggling with time (who wasn't ???) and did not have time to do everything I wanted. But post-compo version is coming ! :)
@tanis I have not idea how to do this... Sorry...
@lorwon Thanks for playing ! That little bug has been fixed (I forgot to uncomment a crucial line... oops).
@antonishig @iaandrei @plexium-nerd @mika314 @nyanpierre @alexio-games @simone @agrdev Thanks a lot for playing drillerROBOT and for leaving a comment here ! :)
I think it really just needs a bit of polish. There were a couple small (and maybe not small) issues I noticed.
So the not small issue is, this game really lags a lot on my computer. At least, I think it's lag. Everything seems a bit slow and sluggish, and sometimes pressing a number key does not play a card, or sometimes a bunch of cards will be played because they moved into the slot and I guess I didn't release the key fast enough. Even just moving the robot is a bit laggy. I'm not quite sure what might be needed to make the game less laggy but I would say that's its single biggest issue.
The other things are just small things: Somehow I misused a bomb card when I didn't have enough energy and I ended up with -2 energy, and the game didn't seem to detect this. I'm not quite sure what happened there.
It would be nice to include a note about how lava works, as I lost my first run to lava that killed me because I drilled next to it... I had no idea it would do that.
But yeah, aside from that, I really enjoyed playing this. It was a lot of fun to see how far I could dig, and I definitely see how the post-compo content you've worked on could make this even more fun.
