Click Miner by rjmusic87

[raw]
made by rjmusic87 for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

From the Ludum Dare 48 theme of "Deeper and Deeper" comes a top-down mining/puzzle game the likes of which has probably been seen a lot before but this is my first time coding anything like this for web browser so please be kind, thank you, you're a star.

The game takes place on an 8x8 grid, representing a layer of top-soil, and you play as The Click Miner. Your task is to hunt/click for the Magic Square, helped by mystical Arrows Of Mystery. Upon discovering (/clicking) the Magic Square, the soil is dug up around the area, revealing ANOTHER layer of... who knows what? Only YOU can discover, as you go Deeper and Deeper into the Clicking World Of Click Miner.

Click Miner was made in around 36 hours and was coded in HTML, CSS and Javascript to help with my own learning of those languages. I would like to say a huge thank you to Brad Traversy for his excellent tutorials on front-end web development, and to Malcolm Jackson who sat with me as I explained every single line of code to him and provided invaluable feedback in return.

  • Update: day after deadline I changed the audio file format from .ogg to .mp3 to work better on iOS devices. No content changed.

Hello, nice puzzle you've made. May I ask what is the minimum moves to win it? I guess 8, but that is pure luck isn't it? I would love to hear some music loop and more feedback on solving current level (Maybe some animation?).
Overall I liked it

this is fun! agree with @wallkysek a simple music loop would be a fun addition. or maybe sounds to go with when you reach the next level/color?

@wallkysek yeah the minimum moves would be 8 and that would be entirely based on luck/hacking the game rather than skill.

I enjoy entries that are simple and fun, and this one gives both. Already noted is the lack of audio. Something really quiet in the background maybe, and a few subtle effects each time you click and when you hit the mark. Anyway, well done.

Since I have 17 hours to go I guess I'll look into adding audio for you all! Audio I can do, animations are way out of my skill set right now!

Hi everyone - after your feedback I've now gone back and added music and sfx:
- looping soundtrack
- shovel sounds
- level completed sounds
- "you win" sound at end

All audio made by me singing or making noises with my face.

There've also been some more QOL improvements but otherwise it's largely the same game.
Thanks for your feedback and have a great day!

For a game made in Jam format with unfamiliar technology - this is amazing.
