Virtually Deeper by Glaikunt

[raw]
made by Glaikunt for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

Chill game. You are trying to get as deep into the simulation as possible while keeping a version of yourself alive.

Controls:

  • W, A, S, D to move about
  • Space to start combat (try and make sure you are in range, though this isn't always possible :))

Objective:

  • See how long you can survive.
  • Choose your weapon
  • Try and do as much damage as possible

Very cool game, the Lo-Fi style music is very good and fits the game really well, also the concept was really cool, that you go deeper and depper into a simulation of the things that happened before, while playing another and the same player at once, very cool!

I liked your idea for the theme, but I was kind of confused by the game. I kept fighting the same enemy and choosing a new weapon out of three weapons, and I couldn't tell if there was more after that enemy. I would have liked some more feedback to the player, but overall nice job, I loved the art and music.

Very good audio and indeed chill, the game broke a few times for me, you should make the hitbox of the melee visible, as well as making the "initiate combat" thing only possible when in range

It took me a while to understand what I was meant to be doing, but it's a neat idea once it clicked. Could do with a bit more explanation. The idea of going deeper into the simulation and leaving behind your 'previous' self is really clever and fits the theme perfectly. Music is good, but could have done with some SFX. Overall it's a very neat concept but execution could have been better. Nice one!

I think the web build is a little broken right now, so I just played the downloadable version. It was pretty fun once I figured out what to do. Managed to get to stage 9. I wasn't sure what the best strategy was, especially with the healers, since it was very difficult to understand what each piece was actually doing. Perhaps some more detailed instructions would have been good.

Hi, I've played your game. The music is pretty, I'm not really a fan of the art-style, but it does the work ! It is a pretty innovative concept (for all the games I've played in this jam so far) and it was pretty fun.

Here are some feedback I can provide :
- A tutorial could be a good idea, as at first, it is a bit confusing.
- Maybe make a way so that we can see the stats of the different characters we can add to our "team" (like their health count, their damage, their specialties, etc...)

Anyways, be proud to have made a playable game for this jam in this amount of time, I hope you'll keep working on this game, have a nice day ! :)

I agree with people before, took a bit, but once understanding dawned it was pretty fun :P I do also agree som tuts would do the game well, or text that tells you what the different weapons do. Overall though, excellent work ^^ good job

Thanks so much everyone for the feedback! It's really appreciated and made my day! I didn't feel great about my execution but everyone's comments have made me feel a lot better about it.

Really chilled game.
I enjoyed trying to figure out what the different weapons would do while listening to that awesome music.
The furthest I got was 8. It was kinda to get the sword users to die, so that they could be replaced instead of two of them dying in the same round.

Good job!

Nice one - the penny dropped after 3rd round and got to round 7. Quite well balanced to make it tricky and careful placement to make it tough to beat! Fab tie-in to the theme!

it took me a couple of turn to understand what's going on and it's amazing to play and you need to strategize to know what to leave alive and what weapon to choose, although the google animation can be a bit faster and also the attacking because the player will do it way too many times.

I loved the music and aesthetic! The game mechanic was interesting albeit kind of deterministic. I would have liked to see a bit more communication as to what each of the objects do. This was a great project that only g=came up a little short in those few places. Nice work!

hey, nice graphic and souds, the game has potential. Just few feedbacks for the future:
- the player shoudnt be able to press space if it wasnt close enough of enemie
- change the map/enemie ever level

I know it was made in 48h, but at least 3 differents maps/enemies it will be nice!

I used libGDX too! You did amazing. I love the take on the theme. I also really like the strategic aspect of the game. I could only make it to stage 7. :unamused: But I like the challenging aspect of the game! It makes it fun. The main constructive criticism I can offer is to implement a better tutorial or instructions. It took me a while to understand the rules/mechanics/objective. Even after reading the instructions repeatedly. But in any case, I really like the game. Thanks for making it!

I dig the chill lo-fi vibes, but I didn't really understand the significance of my choices. More information about the different weapons would help! Nice submission

like the graphics, music, and idea. Like everyone else said it was confusing on what was I supposed to be doing. Great job though!

Good core, lacks variety. And it feels like choices aren't as meaningful as each class only really has one place to take. Just putting the monster in the middle of the room would've changed a lot: the player would need to think more about its targeting!

Another issue was communication: the monster has damage numbers but not players - could make it harder to assess which positions are more vulnerable.

But despite the music cutting off between stages, it still sounded stellar!

Cool game. I would like to see more feedback about what each weapon does, and damage being done to me. It was a little hard to figure out what the consequences of my choices were. Well done!

being able to use the abilities of my past selves was super cool! it would've been nice if there was a short description of what each item did on the selection screen, though. aside from that i loved the little animation of the guy's consciousness being transferred on!

I like the music! I never noticed any threat from the enemy, I just had an endless amount of characters fighting it. Some more variety would take this game a lot further!

Thanks for submitting your game to my stream! I played it yesterday. You can watch me play it here (I start yours at 1:23:36):

Sorry for no game audio - OBS somehow stopped recording the computer audio without me noticing, but I could hear the audio just fine when I was playing it.
