BREAKIN! by Homlet

[raw]
made by Homlet for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

Well, it's been over 6 years since my last entry, for Ludum Dare 32 in 2015. A lot has happened since then, including the fall of Flash and rise of HTML5 games. But it seems I am still just about capable of putting something playable together in 48 hours, even if it is to the detriment of my r e s p o n s i b i l i t i e s...

BREAKIN!

This is a reverse endless Breakout clone, complete with powerups and a paddle magnet. To move the paddle, use the left and right arrow keys, and to trigger the magnet, hold the spacebar. Careful—both running out of balls and letting the blocks touch the top will trigger a gameover. It's like getting the worst from Breakout and Space Invaders!

Hope you enjoy it as much as I tired now

Nice. I did have the same idea, but went for another one since I didn't see how I could execute on it. Nice to see that you actually a very good job at it.

It's the old saying : ideas are cheap, it's the execution of it that brings the value.

Really unique idea of being able to hold the ball and shoot it back.

Good idea and good implementation) minimalistic graphics offtenly good, but I think some effects and particles would fit this gameplay. Also controls felt a bit too fast and sometimes I was missing the ball becouse of it (or maybe I'm just bad)

I really like this take on pong mixed with break out upside down, with a bit more juice this would be a good playable game.

Don't sell yourself short. Definitely not the worst from space invaders and breakout. It was actually quite intense and fun. Nice idea that with a bit of polish would make a great mobile game. Well done!

My high score: 7580.

That was pretty cool! Familiar mechanics, but a fresh combination of them, to me at least. Just a couple sound effects would have gone a long way, I think!

Extra bonus points for being a web game that doesn't spend 2 minutes loading the Unity runtime first! =)

A cool mixture of breakout and space invaders, on an inverted plane. Well done, really nice for a game jam game

A fun little game that is a mix between class and new gameplay ideas. I overall liked it, but some music, sound effects and perhaps even some better graphics, could have made even better. But overall a pretty good compo game.

Oh, interesting take on the breakout theme, hadnt seen an endless mode yet. First thought it was too slow, but it sped up quite a bit. Could need some music and sound effects, at least, feels a little minimalistic like this. But fun game!

"Non-static" Breakout is an overlooked idea, and this was well executed (especially with the use of additional blue balls). Overall fun and challenging game!

I like it! The gameplay is fun and you had some cool ideas like holding on to the ball and adding a second one with the blue tiles. I got some glitchy behaviour with some of the physics though (ball inside the walls, ball going backwards after grabbing with too much speed), maybe some additional checks would help with that. Otherwise a well rounded experience!

I really like this idea, a cool twist on a really famous design. The blue ball adds a lot of tension and emergent difficulty. This was fun, great job !
