Dr.Daker's Deep Diving Discovery by andy593

[raw]
made by andy593 for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

CHROME AND MICROSOFT EDGE STILL SEEM TO BE HAVING AUDIO ISSUES, PLEASE TRY TO PLAY IN FIREFOX IF POSSIBLE WHILE WE TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHY. SORRY :(

--------------------Known bugs--------------------

Enemies sometimes won't spawn in a stage, going to the shop and traveling back will fix it. We THINK we fixed this one, but let us know if it's still happening

Audio is broken in browsers that aren't Firefox for some reason... Gotta investigate. Maybe switching from MP3s to WAVs would fix it? UPDATE: WAV and OGG both weren't the issue, and neither else was anything else we tried..... sad day

~~Stage 3 boss projectiles get stuck. This one's an easy fix, my bad~~

~~Easter egg audio plays when it shouldn't, ouch~~

~~Buying things in the shop seems to mess up sometimes~~

~~Dying during the last boss gets the game stuck if you try to travel back to it~~

~~Player can go into negative health and break the game because I (Andy) did not think about that at all oops lol~~

So you wanna see what’s deep below? Well then by all means take a dive below the surface and see what you find, though you might not like it….

Dr.Daker’s Deep Diving Discovery is just that, a diving game. You play as the titular Dr.Daker as he makes his way further and further below the surface. This game functions as a bullet hell and as such you have to face off against various adversaries as you attempt to reach greater depths.

It may be hard at first but the shop on the waters has something for you. Many upgrades are available to be purchased in order to aid you in your quest. (also if you are strapped for time and wish to play quickly and move along we have a god mode added in so you can experience the game quickly, just click the Ludum Dare logo in the shop to activate it.)

How am I the first to rate this? This was a fantastic entry! A lot of depth (har har) for a game jam game, and even the thoughtful addition of ways to skip leveling up if you're in a hurry to play other jams. Great fun if you like SHMUP games. Or, in this case, SHMDOWN? Really cool sound track, too, with different music for each level.

Thanks for sharing your game with me. I really liked the graphic style and although I had trouble with the flight controls, I felt like with a little practice I could get it. The levels seem to be designed with care and attention. Good job with your entry. Best of luck friend :)

Fun little shoot 'em up bullethell-like game. Little things like screenshake and particles would be awesome for this!

Wow. Awesome Game!
Great Music, some funny plot twists at the end.
Some feedback/juicy particles would be great when hitting enemies.

First of all, incredible game! This had a lot more content than I expected. I really love the final stage and the fact that you had a final boss fight is crazy. The artwork and especially the music are amazing. The Magma Cave's theme is an absolute banger. I have played many games like this, but this one is special.

Secondly, did you happen to use Godot for this game? The audio issue you were having seems to be a bug in the latest version of Chrome. It's affecting many games, but mostly Godot games like my team's. We have not found a workaround for it yet. You can find more info in Godot issue [#47453](https://github.com/godotengine/godot/issues/47453), and Chrome issues [1187016](https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1187016) and [1193494](https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1193494).

@alchemic Thank you for the kind words, we actually did use Godot to make this game and our programmers were at a complete loss as to why this was happening. Thank you for letting us know and thank you for playing our game!

You know, I don't know what I expected when launching this game, but fish-based-bullet-hell was not it. It actually has a super satisfying game loop and is a lot of fun to play. I feel like the collisions could have been a bit tighter but overall, great job!

Fun game! I finished it and all in all i liked it! Would love some more audio/visual-feedback when shooting, killing, buying etc. I loved the item descriptions but they were a bit long and you had to read a whole lot of them in order to figure out what upgrades you had available. Would be nice with a little short description of the effects up top, then the flavor text below. But there is a lot of great content here, well done in a short amount of time!

This was a great entry. Had a lot of fun playing it. The options in the store added a lot of depth to the game, and added a splash of humor. The pricing and balanced felt really good. The audio worked well for me (Chrome). The only thing I had trouble with was the last boss fight. It was hard to see what was going on with the black on black color scheme. Also I really liked the option included in the store to unlock everything for people who are on a time crunch. I will have to look at incorporating that into my next jam game.

Neat game! I really appreciated how you give us the option to "skip" to the end. I would've liked to have infinite money instead of buying everything at once though, since I thought buying the items and seeing the effects one by one was one of the most fun parts of the game. I agree with the others that the last world and boss fight could've used more contrast, as it was pretty hard to tell where the boss was and where I was supposed to shoot. The same problem was persistent throughout the space world, where it was a bit unclear which objects were enemies and which objects were just background (a lot of the floating planet sprites looked like they were in the foreground, which made me think that I could shoot them). But I think the music was really good and I also enjoyed having the option to visit the shop at any time (I didn't have to die on purpose in order to get to the shop). The biggest room for improvement would be contrast and clarity, make sure the players know exactly what the enmies are and where to shoot, and also make sure that the players can see the enemies' bullets clearly (some of the very small white bullets were a bit hard to see).
