However, it would be better if I turned the camera, the character moved on forward key press in the direction Im looking. Good job nonetheless :)
Also the hallway texture is transparent at the bottom, letting me see the ground and skybox.
All in all, a bit lacking in fun but it's a very solid entry!
I agree, in the WebGL version the camera rotation is bit faster. I wanted to control that via settings, but there was no time left. However, you will find the controls in the desktop/mac version better than WebGL.
I hope you guys liked the Music though. We're planning to add more tracks and some activities for the long hallway.
Thank you again for playing.
I could see the skybox while hugging the wall. Maybe just change the environement to be a uniform color.
I got bored before finding anything...
Due to a comment from you, I assume that you worked on this game together with your child which means I'm not going to judge the music and textures that critically. They are very good for an 8 year old.
But the game mechanics and the game loop are just boring. I hope you can admit that too. There is no challenge and the maze is not really a maze because it's just a huge H-letter. It would have been nice if there was an actual maze and the player was forced to find their way to the keys. Don't try to buy game time by just making stuff longer. You could have also had some jumping sections or actual obstacles that hurt/kill the player so that people have to watch out.
Regarding the controls, it would have been nice if the camera would also turn the player and W would always make the player run forwards. There should be enough tutorials out there for a proper 3D character controller to achieve this.
Other than, a different texture would have been nice to get a feeling for the movement speed and distance, but that was already mentioned.
Please don't take my feedback as negative, I'm trying to help you make this and future games better.
Have a nice day.
There wasn't really hook you too keep playing after soaking in the atmosphere a bit. The walls might benefit from some variation along the z-axis - as they were just straight lines it didn't seem like you were moving and it was a bit tough judging distances.
So the overall game jam experience was very thrilling. And the sense of achievement. But I agree that the time was not enough to put health system, more obstacle and a bit difficult maze.
But sure, we would definitely work on those areas and release another version as the time permits.
- character model is decent and animations are stitched together well
- atmospheric tunes are appropriate
- the neon / laser texture on the walls of the tunnel are kinda cool in how they transition, but we don't have any indication of forward motion. its a bit like the player is standing still, with objects being hurtled from a distant point
- when i realized the mouse cursor looked around, I became disoriented, and had to control the backwards run of player with reversed input
overall - not bad!
