Slavery Simulator 2015 by Sébastien Bernery

[raw]
made by Sébastien Bernery for LD33 (COMPO)
You are a slave trader. Take advantage of the "triangular trade" to amass wealth.
Buy soldiers in Europe, let them reduce some african native to slavery, send them in America and force them to work in fields. Sell crops in Europe. The goal is to amass 5000 gold before the year 1700.

You can upgrade Plantations in America to hire more slaves.
You can upgrade africans villages to speed up slaves' capture. Soldiers can be killed when "working" in villages. More soldiers works, less soldiers died. After some time, it becomes longer to capture slaves.

Green buttons are actions available.
Try things and see what happens.
TIPS: at first, focus on soldiers. Buy them and use them. After that, you will succeed.

Press H to display help page, M to mute sound.

Sorry for the bad english.

This is actually very inventive, and even gets addictive once you get into it. Looks like a new genre, make a game like this but with good graphics?

Took me a while to really understand the game however once it twigged I realised actually you build a really solid economy here with just very simple interactions.

I will be playing this game even after I rated it

Though not challenging when you grasp how it works, it's still super addictive. Nicely done, you got something here perhaps worth developing it further :)

If loading is stuck, you should buy a new boat (by buying some boat parts).
Science can lead to more capacity in harbours.
Unfortunately, when harbours are full, logging window is totally flooded.

Fun and original game, although it could use a better tutorial.

I will play this after the LD game, in my spare time. I like that it auto pauses on unfocus. But I believe in option-menus, if I ever like to turn that of.

Unfortunately this one wouldn't work for me :/

It was an interesting concept I think. A lot of strategy games that cover this era, for example Empire Total War, never let you control slavetrade as an aspect.

Wow.

That's an extremely good take on the theme.

Kudos on working that one out. Also, on making a game with actual good gameplay on it. My game's vampire has nothing on the monster I was while playing this.

Nice little strategy game. I really wanted to go on playing! The balancing seems off though, my soldiers that were enslaving people died within a few seconds, so getting new slaves takes a lot of time.

Fun game. But it took me a while to get how does the gameplay work.
Anyway, this game is addictive. :p

I personally like these kind of games where you have to manage resources to do things. Good game!

Really solid little economy sim that due to the subject matter embraces the theme of being a monster.
If you continue work on this post-jam some streamlining to reduce clicking (like auto selling in europe) might be nice.

Very nicely executed and balanced and great take on the theme. The only problem I had is that there is no max quantity shown for tobacco and sugar, so I ended up way oversupplying and having hundreds of both deleted before I could get enough boats to keep up.

best game i played this ludum dare untile now, awesome game, very addictive very good interpretation of the theme. I think there are only 2 things that only could be at all improved, its nearly perfect (graphics, but yeahh a compo entry so very good work) sound i wished more alternating, but the actual soundtrack is awesome and very fitting for the game theme(but i played more then a hour) so i think the nearly perfect compo entry

This was great. It took me a few tries to understand what was going on, but it was addicting enough that I kept retrying until I beat it. I could see this being a really neat "educational" game about slavery for kids in school. Nice work.

There is good planning behind the mechanics and the genesis of a historically engaging strategy game here. Definitely would recommend, and hope you develop these ideas into a more comprehensive game.

Very entertaining game. Played for 10 -15 minutes creating slaves and becoming rich but is there any ending or final goal?

I love games like this, great job. However, after a couple of minutes playing, the game becomes laggy and eats a lot of cpu. Not sure what's behind that.
It took me a while to figure it out, but good solid gameplay! I made a lot of money >:).

Wow. Very fun and addictive. Started to bog down and get slow after 10 minutes or so, had to stop playing. Nice work.

Doesn't look like much, but it sure is compelling.
