Deep Space Surfing by drawander

[raw]
made by drawander for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

banner.png Surf into the depths of space, collecting green orbs and riding green waves, while avoiding red obstacles.

dss_gif.gif

Riding green waves will increase your Intensity %, which increases your score multiplier but also causes more difficult obstacles to come your way. Each hit from a red obstacle will lower your Intensity %, and also increase your damage multiplier, causing future hits to lower increasing amounts of Intensity %. At 0% Intensity, the surf is over!

I love the aesthetic and concept, but it definitely could use some music to fill the soundscape

Nice! This reminds me Earthworm Jim Andy Asteroids level.) With a minimalistic retrofuturistic design.
I think something atmospheric, maybe chiptune music would be very suitable for this one.

it could use some fun music for the mood, the sound effects are nice though. love the gameplay, maybe just make the player movement faster?

Great game especially for a first jam! Good use of sound effects and the intensity mechanism is a great one.

Great aesthetic and the intensity mechanic seems like a cool idea, feel like the game would be more fun if you could see obstacles and orbs coming from further away.

I like the gameplay system here where you can come back from getting hit by playing well, but it gets harder and harder to do so. The reaction timing was well-balanced - it really pushed me at the beginning but I got used to it. The art was also nice. As others said, some music seems really critical for the feel of this one. I also didn't feel like the intensity was really ramping up that much - the pace of objects felt much the same at all intensities. I think more could be added at the high end, and other effects such as crazier starfield lines could be keyed off of it, too.

Cool game, and it will be nice to have some fast pased music, like drum and bass, haha. I like it!
