Submarine Expeditions by Zeusonator

[raw]
made by Zeusonator for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

Welcome to our little pixelart submarine game, called 'Submarine Expeditions'. In which you have to guide your Submarine to the bottom of the ocean.

The rules are very simple.

The submarine is steered indirectly by the little man (Dave). So to turn right, you have to go to that button and click it. Dave.png To move use a/d or <-/-> and to jump or double jump the space bar. To press a button click the left Mouse button. Be careful, if the submarine turns, the paths change.

Finally, a little tip: Don't forget that you can switch off the engine. In tricky situations you can react much better that way.

And now have fun with 'Submarine Expeditions'. YellowSubmarineStartscreen.png

That's unlucky, for me it worked fine, but I added a Windows version, maybe that will work for you.

The idea of beeing a tine character in large viewport is fantastic. Also I realy liked scope view. When the camera zoom out it showed the bombs. It is a good mystery that you dont know whats around you.
Only critic is platfoms could be easir. I always hit my head to floor

An interesting idea with the control of the character and the submarine.
The only thing that hinders the game is the inconvenient scale of the character and the submarine. It's hard to control a submarine.

This game takes a lot of patience to play! I wish it were easier haha

So I played the game a little bit but I found it really hard after several tries haha.
Anyway, the concept is great and very well found but it lacks something a little extra in terms of mechanics

Thanks for all the feedback, I just fixed a bug and made the game a bit easier, remember you can allways stop the motor of the submarine so you have enough time fight or maneuver.

You get the highest score for innovation! Havent seen a platformer like this before. Like stated in comments above, it takes quite some patience to play this. It was really difficult for me :)

@jonrei Thanks for the nice feedback, I admit the difficulty is a bit hard, but this was my first gamejam and for myself I found it not too challenging.

I looove the "programmer" art in this game! I don't mean that in a bad way, don't misunderstand me. Nice idea and fun style. But for me unfortunately it was too difficult to jump between the different controls. Maybe could have started off on an "easier" level with the platforms and made it more difficult as it progressed? But it's not easy to find the right balance in such a short time, I know. Really liked the idea though, so congrats on making this fun (but difficult) game!

This is an interesting idea and the main mechanic has potential, but I don't think the ship layout and the enemies work right now. I'd consider duplicating some controls in the ship, or changing the way the engine works. As it is right now, the safest place is always inside the engine room. That makes gameplay stop-and-go.
