Into the Mind by Kanda

made by Kanda for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

Into the Mind is a game made for the Ludum Dare 48 Game Jam. The theme of this jam was Deeper and Deeper, and so we made this game, a Platformer-Shooter in which you explore the farthest depths of your mind, and go deeper and deeper in insanity.

We strongly recommand playing the game on Windows instead of playing it in your web browser, this version offers a better experience!

Thanks for playing !

I like the character animation!
It's a bit hard to see the grey grass in the third level though so I kinda gave up there.

Great game! Loved the pixel-artish theme of the game :) In Controls tab there is left and right text under a wrong control I think? :)

The strongest part of this game is its mood, great job on that. I think the levels themselves could be a little more interesting with perhaps some traps and different enemy types. The end of the first level for example is really empty. I couldn't read the text fast enough at the start of the game too. Well done on making something though! :)

Very atmospheric, very nice platforming. I loved the music, very good composition and the slow unraveling of insanity was nicely done with it. The graphics were nice as well. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of checkpoints. When you almost made it through a level and die, you have to redo the entire thing which is a bit frustrating sometimes.

First thing's first: I LOVE the music and graphics in your entry. They build a great atmosphere. A lot went into them, and it shows. The gameplay was simple but responsive. I really enjoyed this entry.

I always try to leave some constructive feedback, so I'll mention that I feel like putting a checkpoint or two in the levels would help a lot. I found myself getting a little bit frustrated having to re-play the first half of later stages a dozen+ times, though I would understand if difficulty were part of the game's draw.

I felt like the ending was a little unclear, but maybe that was the point. This game's going to keep me thinking about it for a while. Thanks for a fantastic entry!

the atmosphere in this game was excellently placed, as it made you realize of the insanity the player was diving into. not only this, but music contributes a lot to the mood in this game. this game was really fun and touching. great job!

Thank you for all your feed backs,
the checkpoints are a good idea but I think we preferred to keep the difficulty to give a little more the feeling of confusion. I'm glad you like the atmosphere!

This was REALLY cool. I liked the ATARI adventure vibe, and I really liked the music. The text was interesting, but some of it went a bit fast for my liking, and I think a little polish goes a long way. (Grammar, punctuation, etc.) Overall, lovely!

I liked the game, even if some obstacles are really hard to see with the grey background. Even if the level is repetitive (as intended for doing the same thing over and over), the music and atmosphere are very good and help going forward. Good job!

Hi, I played your game and I loved it, I had a lot of fun and really loved the graphics and animations. The parcour in it self isn't easy at all but still very enjoyable :first_place:

I really liked this game . The music is beautyfull , as well as the art . It all fit nicely together . Even if the level repeat itsealf over and over again , I don't find it repetitive . My only complaint is that the game becomes very hard , but this is probably just because I'm bad .

hello, i loved your game, the graphics are awesome and they contribute a lot to the mood. the only problem i saw is that the animation of the player is a bit strange.the walking animation is too quick(i think) and the jump animation is weird. Well done !!!!!

realy good game, the only problem is the camera I think, it would be better if the camera show a little under the player to see where we want to jump, I often fall on ennemies while jumping

Great atmosphere and the music was amazing!! Very effective and I never got tired of it. Wonderful sense of space.
I agree with others about the checkpoints and the speed of the text, but overall really enjoyed the experience. I personally had difficult on the one moth in the second level near the end. But definitely a fun challenge!

Pretty interesting, I liked the mood of the game !

On the third level, I struggle to understand that the little grass keep killing me, I thought it was an invisible wall or a bug. My bad ^^
But it was pretty cool, good job !

Nice animations and gameplay.

Some level checkpoints would be nice. The butterfly attacks are a bit hard to see.

Very nice stylised graphics. The aesthetics compared to the gameplay manages to make it both relaxing and stressful :D

Thanks for all your feedback it's just amazing to see people like our game, it's pretty crazy !
About the difficulty, I understand your suggestions and they are completely valid if not even good solutions like checkpoints ( but I'm not sure we would had implemented them because they're in conflict with one of the core ideas of the game ). I'm really glad you liked the atmosphere and the graphics, and most importantly had fun and enjoyed playing !

Great game, I see a lot of potential here, so I'm going to try and give some extensive feedback.

Things I liked:
- The character and enemy sprites
- The level getting more messed up as you go "deeper"
- The tight controls, great for fast paced platforming
- The mystery, which got me intrigued enough to finish the game

Things I think can be improved:
- The tileset needs a bit more detail for it to fit with the rest of the artstyle
- Enemy placements seemed a bit unfair on the later levels, making the game a bit frustrating
- Sometimes it's hard to determine what is an enemy and what isn't (the grass, some guys are enemies some aren't)
- The grass was a bit hard to tell apart from the background at times.

Very enjoyable entry, congratulations!

What else can I say, enjoyable platformer, problem for me were sprites in 3rd level not being visible enough so sadly i have up. Graphics are nice and moody, creatures too. I dont remember if I ever played platformer as main mechanic changed how the level look instead of you know the level, so there is some points for that ;)

The music and art really fit well with each other, and I loved the loading transitions! Character animations felt really unique, especially jumping and the tilted falling, very nice.

Although it felt it should be confusing at first, character/enemy sprite swaps were actually pretty easy to spot because of how different their movement patterns are, all of this while still keeping the appearance of "chaos". Also, I think keeping the health information away from the player was a good idea, not sure how to describe, but not knowing the health mechanics made the experience more mysterious, making it more tense and at same time giving false confidence to the player.

Overall a interesting yet challenging experience, good job on the entry!

The mood is so strong, you can almost touch it.

Also yeah, mid-level checkpoints would've been helpful.

@general thank you for your feedback and your video, it's really nice to see how people understand the game ! I should have made more clear that there was a Controls tab, with instructions on how to play ( for example you could have pressed F to shoot projectiles that can kill ennemies )

@joselor oh, wow, shooting is just another business! Cool, I'll try to complete that level with shooting. Fun, that when I stood near the first human, I tried almost every key on the keyboard, but did not press F, even by accident :)

Great atmosphere, music and graphic! :D I feel like jumping is not responsive enough. Some coyote time could fix that. Also some simple sound effects could improve this project.
