Ludem Dare 48 Compo - Buried Deep

As a dog your most proud moment is having found the Golden Bone. You diligently buried in the yard, only to find the hole uncover and a deep chasm where it once was. Go after and find your prize.

Contols: A gamepad is reccomended. Gamepad Controls - Left and Right D-Pad will move the character. A is jump. B will exit Game Over screens. Keyboard Controls - Left and Right arrows will move the character. Z is jump. X will exit Game Over screens. Gameplay: Hearts - You start with two hearts and have a maxium of three. Collecting a heart in the dungeon will fill all your hearts back to 3. Bones - Collecting three bones will give you one heart. If you have three hearts and three bones you will be unable to collect new bones until you lose a heart. At this point collecting a forth point will convert three bones into a heart Keys - You will need keys to access areas through locked doors.

Have fun and good luck on this little platformer!!

Developed in Tic-80 along with Aseprite and Affinity Design.

Fun! I really enjoyed the game and it surprises me how much content you were able to put into the game!

Stoked to have a linux binary!
I get this error though:

$./BuriedDeep

./BuriedDeep: error while loading shared libraries: libsndio.so.6.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

@pixelportalz Looks like you are missing a dependency...not sure what package you would need to install it. Here is a html version https://morokiane.itch.io/buried-deep

Same. Looked at your main page, but didn't see any games listed. I'll try again when I'm on a Windows box.

Another great one, love how much you put into the level design, and I was surprised to see such a compact game, 1MB yet still juicy and rather wide in content, excellent job!

Great game man, really like to see simple but pretty pixel art games =D

This is super cute. I love the art style! The little animations on the items and the trails of dust when you land are some great attention to detail, and I like the style of the walls.

I love these kinds of exploratory fixed-screen platformers (idk if there's a term for them) and this is a great example!

Some of the collision detection feels a bit wonky, would be my only complaint, but it wasn't really much of an issue.

Really nice pixel art! Very polished look and feel. I really liked the design of the level.
Collisions sometimes dont work fine, i think sometimes i touched a coin or bone and didnt grab it, and i had to try again. Also, Sometimes i got stuck in the middle or below wooden platforms.

I would love to play it again with some music, but i know the time limitations.
Great entry!

For anybody else having a problem with Linux dependencies, you'll need libsndio 6.1. On Arch I needed to install 'libsndio-61-compat' from the AUR, on other distros there's probably an equivalent package.

I really dig the art and the visual polish here! The dust kickup, the way the coins rotate and the hearts sparkle, it all feels really engaging. I found the basic jump sound to get kind of annoying pretty quickly though. One trick I've found that helps a surprising amount is to have a few minor variations and pick one randomly each time. That's especially important for the primary action of any game :)

I hadn't seen TIC-80 before, I'll check it out! Great job on this doggovania game!

Fun game with nice art! The platforming across screens was a bit frustrating, but overall pretty great!

A dog trying to dig a bone is a very creative interpretation of the theme, I like it. The art is lovely. Well done.

Super cool platformer! I really loved the art and the level design was super solid. Unfortunately I was unable to finish because somehow I clipped into a wall:

I was so close to the end as well! I might try some other time.

Again, super great overall, lots of polish.

Cool and solid pixel graphics! Nice old school vibes backed by sound effects.

Some remarks:
1. Collisions with coins not very responsive: sometimes you don't collect them on touching. Expectation: coins are collected when you touch them.
2. Black background with such a resolution feels pretty empty. Expectations: more detail on background or more compact levels.
3. Usage of high jumps is not clear enough. Expectation: controllable double jump instead of uncontrollable high jumps.

Good entry!

Very enjoyable to play, and very nice pixel art. Sometimes the coin was a bit difficult to pickup, maybe have slightly bigger collision would help. Good job!

Loved the art style and how the jumping feels. Also, great level design!
I didn't knew about TIC-80 and this game is a great way of showing what it can do. I want to make my own TIC-80 game now!

I don't think I've played a Tic-80 game before, it's got a really cool retro look to it. The black backgrounds with the shading on the other tiles make it stand out, looks stylish. I like the tileset you've created here, the dungeon section especially looks really nice. I liked all the different elements you managed to get into the game, like the waterfalls, springs, water sections, spikes etc. that must have been a lot of work to get set up in time for the Compo! Respect! :)

@chiyeon The collision can miscalculate if you hit the wall at the right angle and speed. I was able to replicate that...never happened in play testing unfortunately.

Thanks for the amazing game. Only feedback is maybe keep all the hard jumps on one camera frame so you dont need to make blind skill jumps.

This was fun! I did find a bug though. I hit the spikes above this level and got stuck here. I can still move around but can't get back to the actual level.![Capture.PNG](///raw/800/b3/z/41b7a.png)

Well done. I missed music.

Congratulations for the game!

@turquoise-moon oh wow...that was an oversight on my part. Spikes don't have collision and I didn't place the blocks to stop the player under them.

Hey! Very cool game! It reminded me oldie Montezuma game a bit. Nice, simple mechanics, the game is really nicely balanced! The art style is super. It would be nice to hear some music, but it's good we can hear some sounds anyway :) Sometimes I had some troubles with picking up the coins, so you may need to tweak that. Besides that, Great work!

This one was very glitchy for me -- a lot of unresponsive controls and collision issues.
