Refrigerator Rampage by RichardK

[raw]
made by RichardK for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

In this game, you play as a can of canned food that wants to go as deep into the industrial-size fridge as much as possible to prevent being eaten too fast. Along the way, you also want to help a few of your fellow canned food mates so that you will not be alone at the deepest point in the fridge. However, the dairy products (the milk, cheeses, and eggs) were jealous of the canned foods because they can survive for a few years without rotting. Therefore, they will try to stop you on your journey going deeper and deeper into the refrigerator. Your job is to safely guide you and at least 2 other cans to the end of the level while avoiding the dairy products.

An original take, some levels lacked visibility and some milk ambush seemed hard to see coming, but nice entry

Hello! I liked the game, the fact that you have to push your allies to finish the levels is cool, it's a change from other gameplay and you benefit from the physics of Unity :3

Congratulations to you and good continuation!

Perhaps the most original take on deeper and deeper i've seen yet - a simple game that gets surprisingly more difficult with increased dairy jealousy and backwards running. Certainly maximum points for humour.

Good stuff! Funny game that plays well and has a clear objective. I was able to rescue many allies once I got my bearings and figured out where I needed to move them. The humor is great here, and the fact that you're "chilling" in a fridge with other groceries and items got some laughs from me. Cool way to display the story, objective, and controls! I also realized I could get some "air" when pushing my allied around, which would let me jump over the relentless milk carton.

Just a couple of notes:
I was excited to see that there was an "Options" button on the title select screen, but when I clicked on it I was not given any options except for "Back".
It would be nice to have a way to control the camera angle somewhat as I couldn't tell what was behind the player. This made it tough to know where the milk carton was at times.
The music did get repetitive pretty quickly, but I did like the instrumentation used. Maybe if it were just a little longer before looping it would fit the game better.

Nice job!

I'm a can of baked beans. Why is Mr. Milk harassing me. I've managed to use a neighbor to launch myself onto a block of ice. Mr. Milk circles me like a shark. I'm not sure where we go from here. 10/10 would play again!

Cute entry and liked the audio but it was a little too difficult to get away from the terrifying carton of milk :P Nice physics though!

Had a great time evading the milk and saving the allies! You did great with the humor here! the big thing i think would improve the game would be to add either a rotatable camera or a fixed camera to see the whole level and to make the ice blocks not stop you when you hit them! Other than those the game was great nice work!

I think the concept is really solid, and I would play more of this. I think there are some things that could be cleaned up though.

- The UI doesn't fit on screen in the size player you have on itch. You can size UI text in the anchors and use "best fit" so the text resizes.
- The walls are sticky. You can create a new physics material, set the friction to zero, and then set that as the default material in your project settings.
- The camera could probably be pulled back a little more. It is tough having the milk start offscreen below you on level three.

Overall, a great start! The humor is great, and the physics feels pretty good. Thanks for the game!

This game is super cute and unique! I didn't really understand what to do at first, but once I figured it out I enjoyed moving around the different levels as the canned food. I really liked the aesthetic that you achieved with the game. It could use some more levels, and it would also have been nice to have more control over the camera, since its hard to tell when the enemy milk is behind you.

Nice submission! I really liked the audio. The fixed camera was a bit annoying sometimes. Congrats!

Cute little game and hilarious idea! Took me a second to understand the mechanics, but made a lot of fun! Really the only critique I have is the camera in the third level

What a fun idea! Getting deeper and deeper in the fridge is definitly an original take on the theme.
I took me a while to find out how to clear the levels (the back of the fridge was not clear as an exit to me) and I got stuck in the menus because the ui did not scale down to my small resolution (WebGL version).
The clean graphics of the game and the struggle to escape the milk made the game fun to play, though. Got a bit too hard for me after a while, but I had fun trying. :)

Here are some notes I took while playing:
- The menu is uh, creative but super ugly. xd The options menu doesn't have anything.
- The music is kinda funny xd
- Weird how you can win and die at the same time
- Gameplay is pretty fun and simple.
- It's pretty easy to get stuck on the ground or on the walls and I don't know why.

So this is a pretty janky but funny game. I actually got myself laughing a few times just looking at the milk carton gliding around xdd I think the only thing that desperately needs work in this game is the UI, it scales up and down super weird so it's all conjoined in the middle of the screen. Also everything has transparency, so there's a lot of visual noise.
