The Squeaky Affair by bmacintosh

[raw]
made by bmacintosh for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

The detective agency Deeper & Deeper have solved many convoluted cases in their time, but this may be the twistiest one yet. The clues just don't seem to fit together, and there's only one thing to be done. They'll just have to— well, you know.

Cool! I have Rocket League installed (An Unreal Engine Game), So I didn't have to install the unreal prerequisites.
If anyone else has an unreal game installed they won't have to either.

Man, I can't stress enough how much i loved this, everything is perfect in it, the puzzle mechanic is simple but so so good, and it's so well done, the way you go "deeper" into a board and having to reimagine it's whole structure... the puzzles are also very clever, the jokes are on point, the graphics are gorgeous, the mood is just right, honestly the best thing i've played in a while, I have very happily given it a 5 stars in every single category, that's how much i liked it, if it was on steam I would have most likely bought it as is, incredible job by everyone involved

Awesome! I was hooked on it, though the white pin felt a little OP. But a really really good job overall!

I loooooved this game. I kept thinking 'okay, I'll stop after this one...' but I couldn't! Very fun game. Wish I had paid a bit more attention to the evidence but I was so focused on those tacks :) Also, loved the "We have to go deEeEeeEeEEperRr!" Great job

Overall, a really solid game with a great premise that doesn't wear itself out! Very nice introduction to the mechanics of the game, and hearing "Iiiinteresting..." when I finished the puzzle was great.

I loved this! Everything from the simple but fun puzzle mechanic to the "Hmmm... Interesting." was on point! So well polished! Played it through to the end. Great game! I'm excited for what the team will do in the future.

Fun game, loved the intro/outro door scene. As another commenter said, white pin makes certain levels a little too easy. Loved the art, great work!

This a pretty good puzzle game. The gameplay idea is simple and good. The visuals, musics and voice acting is all good. I think this would have been so much better if it told a story, by using the puzzles. Overall a good jam game. Well done.

The plot twist, the Memento reference, the (literal) lightbulb moment, the unique take on the theme, the slow reveal of the criminal - there are so many great touches in this game. Trilby's off to you, the first perfect game of the jam.

It's very simple but I really liked it, Imagine if this is how they actually solved cases lol

there wasn't that much to it, but it felt very polished and the graphics were great :D

It's a great puzzle game. I got several layers deep then got stuck finally. A hint system would make it so much better. I feel like I could have found the solution eventually, but I wanted to play other games. The "hmm, interesting" was kind of funny at first then it got repetitive. Having some other lines would be great. My favorite part was honestly the opening scene, going trough the glass. Very well animated.

Really awesome game all around! Love the visuals and audio and the gameplay is perfect to keep going and fits the theme like a... pin on a board, I guess :). I especially liked the level with the pin in the lightbulb, that was such a nice change to the formula. Greatly enjoyed playing through this, well done!

Wow, was not expecting this to be a puzzle at first glance, a very welcome surprise once I started putting things together.

Absolutely loved the creativity of the design of the puzzles, as soon as I saw the thumbtack on the light-bulb I was like "They didn't!" but you did, you mad geniuses did.

The visuals, art, and sound were great as well, I cracked up at the newspaper articles and the "Hmm Interesting..." line every time.

Well Done!

I liked the game a lot! The puzzle are not too hard but you kept adding new elements. The pin on the lightbulb was pretty funny, it's a bit sad it doesn't get used more. The visual are perfect for the game and the global mood with the music fit your universe quite well. The ending was also great, keep up the good work!

Really cool puzzle game, I loved it and played it til the end !

The mecanic is not that original, but the twists with the 3D, the translucid pin, and the white pin spice things up.
The graphics are really nice, especailly the light effect.
The audio is decent and creates a nice athmosphere.

It's a very solid entry :)

Very cool concept and good progression between the levels. The sound effects / dialogue is a really nice touch as well :D Loved the twist with the tic in the light bulb.

My only real complaint would be that the grey pins are a bit hard to see.

I always knew it was the rubber duck all along. The game is insanely polished and interesting to play, I enjoyed every bit of it. Everything fits nicely together, the art, music, sound, and the gameplay. And it's a UE game with a size less than a gigabyte, so you definitely know what you're doing. I love your game, it's brilliant. Thank you!

Outstanding puzzle game! The way that the culprit was revealed in the end was amazing and felt completely natural.
Would love to see this expanded with more of these outside the box thinking moments!

Hard to not play! I have absolute nothing to criticise. What a amazing game.

Simple - yet challenging mechanics. Combined with all in the game - art, music and atmosphere - made this an outstanding experience! Great work!

Hm, interesting...

This is super cool, nothing to criticize really. I wonder if you could potentially pull off a real(ish) detective story with these mechanics if you put more details in each clue/pin, and then get several twists each time you go deeper.

Innovative and fun to play geometric puzzle! Cool atmospheric graphics, music and sound effects. Pleasant animations.

Some remark: on the first level with white pin threads can go through cassette.

Great entry!

I loved this game! The only small complaint I had would be the lighting, a little dark at times. Also the last level was pretty easy compared to those that came before it. Otherwise great game, I was a little sad when there was no more levels.

Really enjoyed solving these spatial puzzles, and it was very satisfying to have those "a-ha!" moments after staring at the pins for a bit. Great art and music too--the little touches (like the rubber duck having a different sound when pinned) just made the experience that much better.
