Yeah, I tried to put a .gif on the itch.io page as an indication for the shop but I agree on this that it could be easy to miss
- really well put together game; polished and complete
- fun game loop
- music and sound
- upgrade shop
- the 'best run' marker on the way down kept me engaged to keep going deeper
Improvements:
- create an end-game system
- for certain items, like the secret item, maybe have the bombs move on the way back up for more difficulty
Bugs:
- I grabbed the secret reward in two different runs but that didn't seem to change anything in the game nor trigger any 'you win' state.
The only criticism I have is that there could either be instructions somewhere (I struggled a bit to realize what the bombs were doing, for instance), or the action could offer clearer player feedback. Or maybe I'm just old and slow
I also agree with what you discussed with @jk5000, the crane could move faster if it isn't holding any treasures.
But these are minor issues, your work is overall flawless. I love the art, story and theme. It's so fun, light and charming! I'm amazed by how many sub-games there are in such a simple, elegant mechanic. Congratulations! Please keep working on it.
On the critical side - I think your coin multiplier is broken - also I brought back the roll at 100m to the surfica - alone as well as with 1 of each fruits, and I didn't unlock an ending - did I do something wrong or is it just not implemented yet :-P
Very nice game - all on your own, in 48h, really impressive - great work, mate :-D
So I really like your game and I'm streaming Ludum Dare 48 games on saturday with my friend Teauorent on his Twitch channel - https://www.twitch.tv/teauorent - Saturday May 1st 4PM CET
First of all - that cool with you? This may redirect some traffic to your page for more people to try your LD48 game
If you'd like, please e-mails us anecdotes and sneak peeks of your creative process (photos, screenshots, beta/WIP asset renders, mood boards, concept Art, etc.) so we can present them alongside and illustrate your LD48 adventure to our audience
Here's our e-mail to send all that good stuff to --> TeamChooChoo.GameJams@gmail.com [we will confirm receiving your e-mail(s) upon reception]
The show will be in french but I'm bilingual so you can totally submit in english, we'll take care of the rest
Have a great day, I hope to hear from you soon - thanks for that great moment I spent testing your little nugget of a game, and see you in the chat on saturday I hope
Thanks mate @strangeryann for your comment, really appreciated! Yes, there is no ending in fact for now, should be more explicit I suppose haha (another thing to keep in mind :v:)
Sure, would be happy to be part of this streaming event, however as I know that we have time difference I could not guarantee my presence. See you soon!
The mechanics ideas are interesting aswell.
Thank you for the game!
Unfortunately I couldn't quite grasp what the yellow line that appears is about. Apparently it doesn't move further down after grabbing a blue star... Is that intentional?
Yes, the yellow line is an indication of your current maximum depth, which could be improved by going to the shop and buying a rope extension. The shop is one of the buttons on the left, for sure it should be more intuitive!
- Soundtrack, simple but effective.
- Pixel Art, again, simple and effective, just right for scoping a game jam
- Shop and upgrades, compelling and intuitive
- Core gameplay, engaging as a simple mechanic while still keeping me engaged and entertained the entire time
- Progression and well tied into the theme
Just so well done, love how well polished and tight the entire experience was. Good job taking a core mechanic and really making a well rounded game aroound it.
I didn't notice the shop until I saw it mentioned in other comments, but started making more progress once I discovered it!
Very nice upgrade system! It makes the game more satisfying to make progress in.
I also really like the risk-reward system where you can leave an object in order to let yourself progress deeper, but it serves as a hazard on your return journey.
Very nice entry, well done!
