Simple core gameplay, but oh boy do these fellows nail the execution. Loved the cutscenes, the music, the art style and the overall pacing. Tubular!
A few pieces of constructive criticism:
- The guns should feel a little "juicier" to shoot
- The dash could maybe be shorter & faster? It seems a little clunky to use
The camera could be zoomed out a bit more
Love the narration!
The plot is charming. The simplicity of the protagonist's motivation really works for a bullet hell shooter in hell. The core gameplay is very fun--bouncing around and grabbing people's guns. The various enemies were interestingly distinct. I appreciate the rainbow-versus-red distinction between friendly and enemy bullets. And the game is so elaborately decorated--up to having voice acting which I appreciated and added a bunch to the experience.
I can't think of any improvements or serious criticism. Great job!
I just wish there was a full screen option (or did i miss something?).
Anyways, to the details... Neat character graphics, simple but good designs. Made me think of one of my favourite games, Crypt of the Necrodancer :) ...use of theme was good if quite obvious though. It was the n:th hell-game I played this Ludum :D. Good and funny voice acting. (we tried voice acting now in our game the first time ever and it's so hard to get right)
Music was a good jam and sounds were ballzy. Also, listen to CMX much?
Game was alltogether well polished and the length was enough but not to overstay it's welcome.
Again, very professional game for this little time!
amazing well done guys
Sounds like audio was turned off in the settings somehow, because the sounds you did hear are the only ones which are not affected by the settings (due to the fact that we forgot to add them to the correct channel). That's a shame, like you said sound is a big part of our game. Glad to hear you enjoyed it anyway!
Great job!
The disco aethetic mixed with the crt shader was making my eyes water towards the end of the game.
Dodge roll didn't really add anything to the gameplay as you could easily dodge most bullets.
The gun pick ups could do with more ammo and most of them felt like downgrades due to the slow fire-rate and accuracy, there was no indication if they did more damage.
Over all a really solid experience.
Your disco is not strong enough, you need more disco in your disco!
...
Okay I'll also mention that the shooting was a bit awkward and could be improved, but that disco thing is WAY more important.
(For the record I did like the music)
Absolutely fantastic submission, I almost cannot believe you made this in 72 hours! Insane! The voice acting and the dialogue adds so much character to this, and the visuals and music are fantastic too.
The actual gameplay functionality is tight, and although its nothing new in terms of mechanics its still a very complete package and a lot of fun.
Agree with someone above that said the boss is over too quick, I was hoping for some cool scripted boss-moves with him, but when you consider everything else included with this its completely understandable!
Would play a full game version for sure
11/10 I hope it'll be top 10 of the Ludum Dare 48 games!
If I should find a flaw, it would be that the right click of the mouse was not used, it could be easier to have the dodge on both space bar & right click. But in any case it is a really nice game !
On the other hand the art style is on point, music fits the overall theme characters are crisp, movement and weapon handling feels very smooth, great work!
The presentation is definitely the game's strongest aspect, in all regards. Gameplay is simple but effective; I have never been good at bullet hell games, but I feel like in some ways it was very difficult to predict or anticipate projectiles. They were large and enemy ones felt a tad too fast to dodge in time, especially when they're coming from all directions. This is compensated by your fairly tanky health, but it doesn't feel quite as tight as it might! Perhaps the camera could have been zoomed out a little? That may have helped. Some variance in environment between levels, whilst luxurious, would have been lovely, but I did like the change in cilour schemes. That was a nice touch.
The boss itself was a bit too weak as others have mentioned. It was awesome to "finally" get to fight the Big BOss Man himself, but once he was half health I was able to just stand still and fire, tanking his shots till he died. I beat the whole thing first go actually! But despite complaints regarding both it being too difficult *and* too easy, what resulted was a good experience where I had some close calls but never felt like I was about tob e cheated.
Super solid work again guys, nice job.
I think this was the perfect length for a jam game as well - it held my interest long enough to get to the end, but it was repetitive enough that any more levels and I may have got bored and smoved on.
Really great job!
I really applaud the color choices. You managed to create a disco atmosphere without overusing the oversaturated colors that would just kill the player's eyes. Truly well done.
The voice acting is great. And when he says "I'm awesome" at the end it just totally won me over.
The game might be too easy, as I am not very proficient at those and managed to finish it on the first try. But I definitely had fun!
This game is super fun and I LOVED the music :musical_note:
This was awesome! I stuck around the menu screen for two minutes thinking if you wanted people to actually play the game, you shouldn't make the title music that good. But yeah; the in game music is even better.
The aesthetics are awesome and fit with the audio, the story, the voice acting, and the humor so good! Fun to play, and funner (is that a word?) still with everything that's going on with the lights and the sounds.
The game got me right at the start, and didn't let me go until it was over. And not even then. I had to play it again right away.
5* for graphics, audio, fun, mood and humor and overall!
Great job people, and thank you for making this game!
