Forgotten Realms by Sam Oates Games

[raw]
made by Sam Oates Games for LD33 (JAM)
-- About --

An attempt to make an MMORPG in a weekend, as well as using Minecraft as an environment modeling tool.

-- What I have Learned --

You can not make an MMORPG in a weekend, but you can have fun trying.

-- Textures --

All textures are from http://bdcraft.net/

-- Controls --

WASD - Rotate camera.
Page Up/Down - Zoom camera.

Mouse Click - Move to location clicked.
Mouse Middle - Rotate camera.
Mouse Scroll - Zoom camera.

-- Note --

The server is hosted on a VPS I own, however at points I will need the VPS for other uses. Because of this I have made the game work offline as well, but you wont see other players ect...

I could find no other players, and since there isn't anything to do, it's not very interesting. Still, if it's working as a multiplayer game, it's at least a technical achievement.

I wish you made your own textures instead of stealing them from a game, the music was very nice though. I didn't meet any one though :(

Wow. You have awesome game for three days. Some bugs but pretty music and visuals. If I can eat somebody... :( Good visual and without NPCs or AI mobs is boring.

I liked the music but even though it's already been said I think you should have used your own textures.

Well done. Nice world and mood, but nothing to do. Also, I felt too constrained moving around. Would have been nice to be able to jump and climb. And maybe dig in some places.

Interesting prototype with more valor that people thinks. The gameplay is good and its a good beginning to do something better. Keep trying

The idea of using minecraft as the level editor is interesting, but yeah the idea of making a MMORPG in a weekend is way too ambitious. Try working on a postjam version if possible, this has potential.

I don't realize the amount of work needed for making this but good job trying to make a MMORPG in 3 days :-)
I couldn't find anyone to play with and the offline world is quite empty, so I didn't really have fun. I guess it was more of a personnal challenge for you?
I'd like to see it with more content!

Nice game!

LOL, "-- What I have Learned -- You can not make an MMORPG in a weekend, but you can have fun trying."

I do the same thing every Ludum Dare, try to make something cool, don't exactly finish, but have lots of fun trying.

Well, the visuals are impressive.
otherwise it's a technical achievement but not really much there game wise

Well, at least it was a fun technical experiment, which is part of the spirit of these jams. I do get satisfaction about having a begin-to-end experience too tho. I putter about in my own time plenty :)
