Charioteer by TheFlyingSatan

[raw]
made by TheFlyingSatan for LD36 (JAM)
You ride the chariot of war in the legion of glorious Caesar. With motorcycles and guns because this is a video game and not a history book.

Made in the last 12 hours of the jam, as life got in the way until then, so its a little rough around the edges. Coincidentally, its the first game I've ever finished, so there's that.

WASD to move.
Left mouse to shoot.

Shoot gauls for points.
Pick up banners for more points.

I played the game for a bit. Simple yet well executed game mechanics. Music and sound effects are nice. It was kinda difficult for me to avoid rocks, but that may be just my reflexes being slow. Overall good work.

Has potential but the game's difficulty curve is too steep. The guns feel really weak. The ammo is too limited which makes it rather useless considering how you could just run over enemies, the move speed is too slow to avoid a lot of rocks and the perspective makes it hard to judge if you're safe from the rocks. Good job in completing the game though.

I found the game quite hard, but that might be me getting too old for these fast paced games - Basically I think Nichii highlighted the issues! :-)

Well done on finishing your game!

Pretty good entry, not sure the music fits thought. Aside of that. Like Nichi said, the gun seem a bit useless compared to the fact you can just run over people. Nice mechanics, and the link to the theme is really good. Love it.

100% historical accurate ^^
Simple, but fun, but hard
Good job!

Neat little game. I loved the art and the idea of having a motorcycle instead of a horse :)
It was hard tho to dodge the rocks so it would have helped if the camera showed stuff a bit earlier or having an indicator on the right side of the screen warning you.
Audio was OK!

Not Bad, a little fast. And if you hold down fire it skips past the score screen immediately...

It's like Mad Max haha! I really wanted to find out what happens when I shoot the balloon but kept missing it :)

For the time you had this was a great game, the controls were simple and the objective was easy to grasp. However I found myself disregarding the gun and just running things over. The pace of the game itself was a little fast making some rocks almost unavoidable.

I was trying to conserve ammo then i realized I could just drive the enemies over. Ammo becomes sort of useless then unless you're going for points. It would have been if you had a motorcyle-chariot and player entity, and the player just followed the chariot like you would expect, kind of flinging around all over the place and hard to control. That way you could still run enemies over with your chariot, but if they hit the actual player you're screwed. Still good overall for a first entry.

Cool game man. Funny concept and easy to pick up, eg; controls and stuff. Although, I'm not sure why you have to install the game. An exe would have been easier. Congratulations on a finished game though, that's always a good thing!

Simple, easy to understand. Good motorcycle art. The bullets seem a bit slow. If you have not watched it yet I would recommend looking up "The Art of Screenshake" on youtube. I'm glad to see other people using gamemaker in game jams, the tool really shines at getting products playable quickly;however I would not recommend gamemaker's default font. I am happy that you put text on a background with contrast instead of letting it blend in. Over all, solid entry and I hope it lets you grow as a developer and build an even better entry next time.

Pretty fun. I didn't use the gun at all because it was pretty slow and it was just easier to run people over. Also, as a general thing, I would suggest to avoid installers. Good work overall!
