Pressing Signals by partialmoon

[raw]
made by partialmoon for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

Pressing Signals is two-button action arcade game where you have to type out the correct Morse code pattern in order to destroy the incoming enemies. You will only begin your attack once a full sequence is correctly typed, but the longer the sequence, the more bullets you will fire.

Morse code is still in use sometimes for various types of signaling, so I thought that it would be a good fit for the Signal theme. I wanted to add more to the game, and I know the game could use more polish. And it could certainly use some music.

Hope you will enjoy my game! Enjoy the jam!!

EDIT 08.05.2026: I planned on expanding on the game a bit more, but these past few weeks have been very busy, and unfortunately I just didn't get to work on the game at all. And, unfortunately I also didn't get to check out too many games in the jam. I'm very sorry about this! Maybe the next edition! :)

If I do expand on this idea, it will maybe be on my itch.io page here, https://gamesbycip.itch.io/

Thank you! I hope you had a great game jam!

Honestly this was super fun! Its so simple, but my brain immediately got stuck in this unusual typing game ^^

Fun little game. The audio feedback was great. Also the visual feedback. You could always tell if you pressed the right button. It is also nice that the shapes of the two letters are different.

I like that the enemies are health bars, so you could tell when they explode.

As you said some music would be nice and personally I would have liked it, when there would be even more buttons to press (the further the gameplay, the more buttons).

Overall it is a fun and polished game. Congrats to that! :)

I found the idea very original. And it was very well implemented in Pico8 (I love Pico8 games).

It's harder than it looks. At first it seems quite easy, but it gets complicated, even with only 2 buttons.

Congratulations. It turned out great!

@lllarso thank you for the feedback! :) yes, I totally agree, the game could really use some music (I don't know know at the moment how to create music in Pico-8 - would love to learn at one point), so I had to release the game without music. and yes, more buttons to press or pressing the buttons in different ways could have added a bit more to the gameplay. thank you for the feedback, I will take these points into consideration.

thank you again and I am happy that you enjoyed the game!

@euler-moises thank you for your feedback and for playing and enjoying my game! and I also love Pico8 games!

And yes, I agree, I think I could work a bit more on the difficulty progression, because I also found that after a short while a lot of enemies would spawn.

Thank you again!

@mibi88 thank you for playing the game and for your feedback! I'm glad you liked it!

@okkolobr thank you for your feedback and for playing my game! initially I wanted to add even more effects, but unfortunately I didn't quite manage to do that, so it's something that I will have to consider if I expand on the game.

A simple and quirky arcade shooter that was really satisfy to play, especially after getting a decent streak going. It's surprising how stressful it was to tap two buttons in the correct on a time limit too. Overall a well polished and well presented game. Well done.
