Can't beat the boss, but want to see the ending?

If you find the boss hard, I created Quick Boss Fight Mode, a version that jumps straight to the boss fight, with half the health, so that you can see the game ending!

Post compo version

If you enjoyed the game, I uploaded a post compo version, with some minor tweaks:

  • Added subtitles
  • Made the boss a little easier

I love the voice acting. The gameplay is fun, especially the final boss fight!

Fun voice acting and story! Maybe the boss fight could be a bit shorter (or maybe a health bar could also help) but overall the game was pretty fun!

Very funny (but I can't rate the humor!) the voice give the game charm. Boss fight is fun but hard, keep dying no idea how close I am to beating gab-be-edi

@jpat @oadt @darkshadow Oh! looks like I accidentally opted out of... ALL the categories. That's a mistake. Feel free to rate in those categories too (each category you leave a rating in boosts your game more).

AND @darkshadow, looks like you were close! The boss changes expression when it has half health

Good humor, and the boss fight is so long ^^ but it's a beautiful piece of work

A very fun game - an old man simulator! I made it to the boss and even managed to change his mood, but I still couldn’t beat him.

Voice acted cutscenes?? Wild! I enjoyed all the different enemies/characters, especially the sideways wavy flying one  and the boss fight was cool, well done!

@darkshadow @zyertdox Hey, if you want to see the ending, I just uploaded a version to my website that skips straight to the boss fight, but lowers the boss's health, so you should be able to beat it! https://jezzamon.com/cable-connector-boss/

10/10 humor, loved it! I just wish there was a bit more feedback such as hit effects, HP bars, etc. Subtitles could also be helpful as I have no clue what our protagonist says in the beginning haha. I love that you basically got a whole metroidvania open world and boss fight in for a Compo. Nice work!

Cool game! Especially the women floating in the air are funny.

@rosypenguin Thanks for playing it! Yeah you're right, visual feedback on hits and subtitles would definitely be good to have. I'll add it to the post-compo build for sure!

This was awesome, the voice acting is great and I really like how you did the cutscenes. The camera cuts with the voice over make them feel kinda like old machinima or newground animations. The platforming also felt really responsive, the mechanics felt a lot like metroid in a good way. The boss fight was very fun! If I could add one thing it would be more visuals in the levels to sell the environment a bit more.

I tried but finally gave up with the boss fight, I managed several times to get to the "half life" skin, but having to jump /then/ fire-up because of the keys don't work more than two at the same time, it was way too hard for me…
Good entry anyways, the hard boss fight didn't prevent me to give five stars, as it was really fun to play and I wouldn't have tried so hard if the game was bad :D

Unfortunately I didn't manage to get past that final boss even with a couple of tries. I'm gonna blame the input keys not being very optimal for my keyboard layout (number keys are spread out over the two halves of the keyboard). Absolutely not a skill issue  Would have been nice to have alternative (WASD) keybinding included too, maybe controller as well.

Over all very well made game, the platforming controller felt good. I really liked the story and voice acting. From accessibility standpoint subtitles would have been great.

@lereveur Oh! I never ran into the problem of multiple keys not working at the same time. Maybe that's related to your keyboard? That would definitely make things harder -- I just hold up most of the time during the boss fight.

And @lereveur / @local-minimum thanks both for playing! If you want to see the ending, I did add a link to a version that jumps you straight to an easier boss fight!

@local-minimum Oh and I appreciate your video! I 100% agree with all your feedback - definitely would've added more things like health bars, subtitles and alternative controls, if I had a little more time :')

I doubt it's coming from my old Logitech K740 keyboard, as it don't have special format nor configuration nor feature (except it's illuminated, but I don't see it making trouble). I tried the game from my work computer (shhh! don't tell my boss) and its working well, and the keyboard is an old model from Logitech too (K280e). As I use Chrome/Win10Pro for work and Firefox/Win11Pro at home, I suspect this behavior is link either to Firefox, Win11Pro, or both combined…

I had a blast playing this game yesterday! (oops forgot to rate&comment)
Love the dry humor of this one

The boss lacked a bit of feedback when it was actually hit or not. Maybe some basic white flashing would have worked here. That said, this is a solid entry :v:

We were super impressed by the fully voiced cutscenes! Great camera work, too! The boss fight *was* hard, but we got it after three attempts. More feedback for hits on the enemies would have been helpful.

Connecting the cables didn't feel that meaningful gameplay-wise. But we think the general level of polish made up for that!

A nice platformer, the voice acting was definitely the highlight. The music was very catchy, especially considering how short of a loop it is in the end.

The only thing I felt was actively detracting from the experience was that it was hard to tell if the shots were landing or merely disappearing right before the target. Better feedback there would have gone a long way.

@wouter52 @lohii Totally agree on the bullet feedback, my post-compo build has visual feedback for when the shots hit and it helps a lot. Hopefully next time I can carve out a bit more time for polish at the end!

@blinry Thanks for playing! As always, there was my idea for the game and then what I actually implemented... I had a few more ideas for the cables & different signal types, but not enough time in a compo game :P

A short platform game. The connection mechanic seems not prominent enough. Besides, it wasn't until the boss fight that I realized I could shoot upwards.

This was glorious lol, I revel in the anti-AI/anti-data-center sentiments here. The voices were fantastic, and I absolutely loved the use of the singular AI image. I thought it was an incredible ending, tbh. And I was shocked to actually beat the game since I'm usually pretty terrible at using the keyboard in precise-ish games 🏆

OMG this is phenomenal. Story. Voice acting. Action. Good funnies and also some social commentary. Wow. Really good stuff. Absolutely loved it. Only things I might add to would be expanding the graphics a bit and more feedback on hitpoints/health remaining (for you and the boss), but really this was perfect. Thank you so much for making and sharing such a wonderful piece of art.

Fun game! The voice acting is a real charm. I beat the boss fight on my second try and figured out how to shoot properly, but the crawling enemies also stopped appearing and I wasn't distracted by them. Maybe it's a bug or a feature, I don't know :)

Ive done it. I beat it! Cool voice acting, nice short platformer. The boss could have like half its hp. Overall very cool entry!

Loved it! Perfect length.

The boss's extra superpower threw me a little though:
![sticky-power.png](///raw/81b/z/73377.png)

breaking that fourth wall to shift input focus out of the app felt a bit unfair at first, until I figured out the counter-strategy of choosing "Yes! I do want sticky keys!" and then never stopping shooting. Once I flipped that script on him I did much better.

Very cool with great voice acting, a hilarious boss intro I didn't see coming, and some tight action with smooth controls. Really nice all around entry.
