Signal: UNKNOWN by basic_eagles

[raw]
made by basic_eagles for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

GAME HAS BEEN RELEASED!

Signal: Unknown is a game where you play as a signal tower watcher stationed far away in the sandy mountains. After a recent heavy sandstorm, contact with the tower was lost, and your goal is to restore the connection by placing special "signal nodes".

But be careful! The mountain weather is unstable, and heavy sandstorms can hit at any moment. The game may have horror elements at times.

Collect scrap, maintain signal nodes, survive the sandstorm, repeat…

Yeah, seeing the same issue as well, looked like good stuff, especially since there was a team and not just a soloist :(

Sadly, the mouse sensitivy is way too high and I did not really knew what to do, but I managed to do a tour!

It is good looking, and there is potential.

@xotraz Hi, you can change the sensitivity in the main menu using the sensitivity slider below the Play button

@reimi Uhh, I guess it’s being detected as a virus because the game has a hyperlink to our Discord in the main menu It’s safe, you can even use VirusTotal to check for viruses

Great atmosphere and an interesting concept. Some small bugs like stuff falling throuogh the ground but i think this has a lot of potential.

A very interesting project. Although the graphics are simple, combined with the sound design, it looks atmospheric. I wasn't too keen on the gameplay, though.

Such a good job in creating the horror vibe, I'm not so clear of where to go, but the vibe and the surrounding and the eerie feeling are so nice.

I couldn't handle the game.
Great sounds, good atmosphere,
but I couldn't even figure out the tutorial.

A cool horror game with appropriate style and sounds. The game has a huge number of mechanics, and it's not even clear how they managed to implement them in such a short time. The tutorial is a plus for the game.

Overall, everything in the game is really well done.

cool visual, somewhat reminiscent of fears to fathom , but it seems to lack a tutorial (

Достаточно качественный туториал, интересная механика с антенами, достаточно необычная. Но основаня локация слишком темная и не очень понятно, как и куда продвигаться, чтобы пройти игру. Атмосфера пустынная, это круто сделано

I had to spend quite a while playing, which is probably both a plus and a minus. The storms force you to pause, and the rush to the booth for each new transmitter gets longer the closer you get to the end. Overall, it's very interesting and atmospheric, with working mechanics. This build could be a good foundation for a horror or survival game, or perhaps some kind of story. It's great that the game feels narratively complete, with a clear goal from the start, and a good tutorial.

@sphone-official If you can describe in more detail what actions you were taking and where exactly you got stuck, that would really help us out.

i had lost my wrench so after one of my machines turned red i went to the one before it to move it's signal to a secondary one a i built next to the one that broke, after i did that i was unable to send anymore signals to any other machines i built, the signal would appear for a frame but vanish instantly when it didnt do that before, i tried making more machines around it to see if it was just the one i was sending to that was broken but none of them received it properly anymore, just appeared for a frame then poof. (i could send a picture of where it happened tomorrow if you'd like but i doubt it was related to where pillars were because it was working fine before i had to do the reconnecting)

@sphone-official Strange, I can't reproduce this bug. Sorry it affected your experience - we'll try to figure out what's going on.
Did you move the antenna targeting crosshair with WASD after the signal was established? Or did it appear and vanish immediately even without touching the crosshair?

I am amazed by the amount of work this must have been during 3 days. The mood is really on point. The only thing that I found quite frustrating is the limited orientation angle of the antenna but apart from that this was a blast ! Congrats on your entry guys, very well done !

I really liked the metal detector. The visuals are quite appealing. Holding ESC feels like a very unusual choice, but overall it was fun! Thanks!

Its good! I think it took a little too long to finish, but I did manage to find a shortcut which made it quicker! It was very spooky, you nailed the mood, but once I realised that the guy didn't do anything to you it became more a... Continue and sometimes stand still simulator? I liked the little minigame for the good end though!

@jynxaudio Thanks for the feedback! You're right - the game lacks a proper difficulty curve, so everything starts repeating from the midpoint onward. We had the opportunity to add a couple more challenge layers toward the end, but we decided against it because the concept of the player losing everything and having to restart after placing ten or so antennas seemed questionable from a design perspective.

Nice horror game, the storm had me actually feel uneasy but thankfully there were no danger in there :) I have completed the entire game without using the metal detector, holding 2 antennas was actually more convenient. Overall, a great submission.
