BPM, Bionica Pro Mortis, is a cyberpunk rhythm duel game built around two asynchronous biometric signals. The player controls a cybernetic fencer whose survival and actions are governed by an ECG signal.

Read the enemy’s heartbeat to defend, follow your own to strike, and survive as both rhythms accelerate toward chaos.

GAMEPLAY

In this game, the signals control everything. When a signal reaches the center marker, you must act.

The blue signal influences your strikes. The red signal influences your parries.

Every time you get the right input at the right time, you score points. Survive and reach your highest score possible!

I scored 17k points, sometimes it seemed like you had to press attack and parry at the same time, I would like a more meaningful order of attack and parry, sometimes it seemed like you could just randomly press attacks and parry to complete the game

Hey, thanks for the sincere feedback!
Character's animations are almost instant, so you can press both parry and strike at the same time, they would work if the input is detected in the window of the signal.
Actually, if you randomly press actions and fail, they would go on cooldown and you might miss the next one or two inputs (depending on the pace of the combat you're on).
Thanks for playing! We plan to add more variations and interactions if this prototype is to your liking :v:

If only i had game pad..... Addictive game with cool art direction and simple visuals, just the right type for the ludum dare. Wish we had more movement like left/right directions and jumping!

@pavlo, do you get this error on the web version on itch.io?
🎤 FLOWERFIELD Games
Apr 21st · 14:49 UTC
@alex-o @ekopeko thank you very much!

@aashen, without a gamepad, you can still enjoy it with the main controls on the mouse, but you get limited access to the critical mechanics, which were kind of a pain in the ass to design for the keyboard. Any suggestion about a better binding?

About the movement. Well, at first we were designing a versus fighting game, but with the first prototype we realize the signal was useless, so we pivoted and looked for something more about rhythm where the signal is th main character

I really enjoyed this -- it reminded by of Infinity Blade in a way. I feel like it would definitely have been better on a controller, but mine is a bit finicky at times, and I could not get it to work.

The design and aesthetic was great, and the music fit very well. Great job overall!

For everyone having issues with the **_invalid binary data file size error_**, I suggest you download and try the .exe version. Some of our assest are very heavy and we didn't have time to optimize it for the web version.

I wish I could make cool itch.io pages like this! 🥰 The visuals, sounds, and overall idea are very interesting. Maybe adding more enemies with different attacks would make it even better, but that’s probably too much to ask for a jam game! Keep it up!

I couldn't get it to work in the browser, so I downloaded it. The game is great and I'm happy with everything, but there’s one thing: when I first opened it, the volume was extremely loud and actually hurt my ears. I went straight to the settings, but the volume slider didn't seem to work, so I had to lower it through the Windows Volume Mixer.

@pavlo04 Thanks for the feedback. Yes, unfortunatly, we rushed the settings at the end and realise after publishing that it didn't work. sorry for you're ears :grimacing:

The visual is awesome! I love the idea, though managing 2 signals coming from 2 opposite directions was kinda difficult

Fascinating art and music with sound are picked well. Gameplay is prety smooth. Great work!
One thing I found strange - tutorial windows that close by mouse click. As the main gameplay is about clicking the mouse on time, I think it would be better to close tutorial windows with another key or by button in ui so you won't accidently close tutorial (as i did several times haha).
Also agree with a guy in the comment above - it's hard to click on 2 opposite signals in one time with one hand. Maybe there is no problem when playing on gamepad, but on PC it would be better if you could use keyboard instead of mouse. But still a good entry! :smile_cat:

Interesting gameplay mechanic. It feels unusual at first, but you gradually get into it! The art and animation don’t distract you from paying attention to the signal and give a sense of impact from the attack.

Great job!

I loved this game so much! From the artstyle to the gameplay of it. It was all really great. Sometimes I could get overwhelmed by the signals landing at the same time from mine and the enemies but didnt really take away from the game. Good job this is up there with my favourites this ld jam!

Cool idea! I like how it run, but the fact that the signal are not on any "beat" of the music feel so strange to me (especially since the game is name "BPM") but it's more of a detail.
Cannot beat the 5th guy, I got lost in the input. Which is cool ! There not that many input but you still find way to make the game feel difficult but not unfair, and all of this in a game jam ! Congrats!
