Peace : 165 by OasisGreen
[Peace : 165] is a narrative 2D platformer set in eternal night. Follow a girl's fading lantern as she listens for the signals of birds. Original hand-drawn art, original soundtrack—all made from scratch in 72 hours by a largely women-led team.

The world is plunged into permanent night. You play as a young girl whose only source of light—and life—is a fragile oil lantern. To keep it burning, you must follow the calls of mysterious birds scattered across the ruins. Every line of art, every note of music, and every line of code was born during this jam. No asset packs, no stock music. Just a shared vision brought to life through ink, pixels, and sound.

Follow the Signal: Use audio cues and visual ripples to locate hidden birds. Each encounter offers a dialogue choice that reflects themes of trust, memory, and loss.

Feather Fuel: Every correct conversation rewards you with a single feather. One feather keeps your lantern alive for just a few precious seconds. Plan your route carefully.

Soul Capacity: You can only carry the "essence" of three birds at a time. Some grant helpful buffs, some are burdens, and some must be paired together.
And. Move with A and D. Click to interact, click to speak. And don't forget to check the journal in the top-right corner—it holds the names and stories of every bird you've encountered in the dark. Walk up to the lifeless birds. Click. Speak. And maybe—just maybe—you'll start to understand what we're trying to tell you.
Most of our team are young students, and for many, this is their first Game Jam. It's far from perfect, but everyone gave it their all. Thank you, truly, to every one of us who worked so hard. And to you, dear player—we hope you can feel the heart we put into this.
One more thing—our game currently only supports a resolution of 1080p. If the screen doesn't quite fill your display when you open it, we're truly sorry. That's just a resolution conflict at work.
Thanks for music tutor-Haar.

However, there is still room for improvement in terms of gameplay. The current experience leans quite close to a pure text-based game.
I also really like how bird calls are used to guide the player, which helps immerse the player's senses more deeply into the game. The writing is very poetic. Facing a humanitarian tragedy, the text isn't just purely sad; instead, it expresses a longing for peace, beautiful family bonds, and a pursuit of light. This complexity makes it even more heartbreaking.
In terms of gameplay, the team designed different functions for the birds. I didn't notice this during my first few playthroughs (the numbers 123 didn't change when I collected a bird, and I didn't realize the bird was already in my backpack), but fortunately, this didn't affect the experience too much. Currently, I've only unlocked one ending and I'm not sure if there are more. I also noticed that choices seem to have right or wrong outcomes, but I haven't figured out the logic behind them yet.
All in all, this is a game with a unique theme and excellent emotional delivery across multiple aspects. If the feedback regarding the bird functions could be strengthened, and if the logic and consequences of player choices were clearer, the sense of feedback might be even better! Thank you for making this game.
The game's art and sound effects create an extremely immersive atmosphere. The protagonist's breathing and heartbeat sounds effectively trigger the players' nervousness. The script is also full of a sense of story. If more fun elements could be added to the gameplay, it would be even better. Keep up the good work!
Absolutely love the game’s sound design and atmospheric world-building! The choice of theme is fantastic. From the moment you enter, the heartbeat, ambient sounds, and footsteps create a deep sense of unease. The art style complements this perfectly—audio and visuals work together to establish a striking and cohesive tone. As you read through the text, the strength of the writing really stands out; it’s engaging and thoughtfully crafted.
There are a few minor issues with overall completeness—for example, some buttons in the settings menu don’t respond, the character currently lacks walking animations, and the bird spawn locations feel somewhat fixed. These are a bit of a pity… curse those short 72 hours!
That said, the game is still incredibly impressive. Its outstanding sensory experience combined with reflective, thought-provoking writing makes it truly memorable. Please make more games like this!
I love the hand-drawn style UI and character design!
Don't worry about your work not being perfect! Everyone feels nervous in their first jam — I even dropped out a few times early on due to scheduling issues...
You all did a great job!
Here are a few suggestions (or maybe bug reports?):
After downloading the Windows version, I found that the Settings button doesn't open, so I couldn't figure out how to switch languages.
But then I noticed that when I open the 1-2-3 inventory, the default UI text shows "空" (Chinese for "empty").
I'm not sure if it's just me experiencing this.
Anyway! Great work! Looking forward to your team's next project!
Although there are still many areas for improvement, it is already very satisfying to have made a complete and playable game for the first time! Also, thank you for your suggestions. We will make better improvements to make the game more complete and interesting.
However, some key presses didn't seem to respond. There is also a bug worth fixing: when I open the inventory, time pauses, but I can still move around. If I bump into the bird while doing this, I can see the dialogue prompt pop up, and then I can just close the inventory to talk to it.
Honestly, though, this unintended exploit took a lot of the gameplay pressure off and allowed me to focus more on enjoying the story!
We used the sounds of birds as the guiding signal. It's really impressive that you understood this level.
@roccay Thank you for your feedback! This is indeed a small design we put a lot of effort into. Thank you for noticing it.
@chaseplays Thank you for your feedback! I also really like our story and the setting.
Game displayed fine on 1440p monitor, with only some minor visual issues. I had one annoying bug where clicking on the dialog choices didn't do anything, making me stuck. Otherwise very nice entry and I'm glad that students were involved; I wish I had this option when I was studying myself, because nothing teaches you better about working under pressure and time management than game jam. Awesome!
@dzejpi Thank you for your evaluation! We will also pay attention to this issue of time limit and may relax it a little bit. Perhaps this way, it can better enrich the gaming experience for players. Regarding the bug you mentioned, we will also optimize it. Thank you for your thoughtful feedback.
While the gameplay is still somewhat linear and there are minor interaction bugs. Some settings buttons don't respond, it's impressive how complete and thoughtful the game feels given the 72‑hour development limit. For a first-time game jam, this level of polish is really good. I look forward to future updates that enhance the distinct functions of different birds and deepen the impact of player choices. Great job, and keep it up!
@13pilgrims I'm very touched that you have such a thorough understanding of our game. And thank you for noticing our narrative design. We will also pay attention to situations where certain buttons do not respond to interactions. Thank you for your suggestion!
There was also a lot of symbolism woven throughout the game that I probably still haven’t fully deciphered. The timer ended up being way more exciting than I expected too, especially tied together with the fading lantern light. It reminded me of mechanics like maintaining a campfire or feeding fuel into a signal to keep it alive.
Cute and adorable characters as well. Feels like a lot of care and work went into the whole presentation.
Really great work! :izakaya_lantern:
