MORSE SHOOTER by AstroAceOne

[raw]
made by AstroAceOne for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

This is my first ludum dare, I dared, and indeed my first jam, I really hope that you enjoy my game, and I also hope it will bring you fun. Worked alone

WALK - (W A S D) Mouse Left Click - DOT (.) Mouse Right Click - DASH (-)

When abilities open up to you, you will need to enter the Morse code to use it, at the bottom of the screen there will be hints on what to enter

p.s. after stage 6 of wave 1 the game ends, I left the game unfinished like this so you could enter codes and just experiment. AND THANK YOU SO MUCH

An unusual concept and easy controls. I was expecting a lot of shooting enemies when the shield appeared. The game either doesn't have an ending, or something froze for me, as the enemies simply stopped appearing after the next wave. I hope you manage to finish the game, good luck!

cool idea and well implemented!

are there only 6 stages? after stage 6 no more enemies spawned, and I was left wanting more :)

see lots of potential for this, probably gets really fun once you get good

A fun game. I enjoyed playing the first session. if you add some kind of meta progression, it would be great.

Really stylish and polished game. A cool twist on Morse code. I especially liked the tutorial with the spacebar - clever way to make sure the player doesn't skip the tutorial

Really cool concept. Was fun to play while it lasted, but it seems like right now it stops on wave 6 stage 1. Great job nontheless. Felt like even when i messed my combos up, it still worked out pretty great. Keep at it!

Cool idea, it would be even cooler if you had to make words out of Morse code

Cool idea, love the fun visual effects! ✨ Would be awesome to have a bigger game field and some deckbuilding—so I can collect my own attack builds and not get mixed up in everything all at once. 😊🎮

Not bad for a first time. Especially considering you were working alone.

Really fun gameplay! I liked having to think on my feet and use a mix of all my abilities because of the cooldowns. I think I beat it? Enemies kinda just stopped spawning after a while. I think you could've gone harder on the art. Even a game with a simple style like Geometry Dash can make up for it with cool particle effects and polish.

The integration of the Morse code system is such a clever addition to the shooting genre. It forces you to think tactically and makes using your abilities feel earned rather than just button-mashing. Great first jam entry—you should keep building on these kinds of unique mechanics!

Really enjoyed this. Fantastic shooter. I wish it was possible to skip the intro. As a ham operator the different tone for the dash seemed unnatural vs. the same tone longer. Wish there was a a way to gain heath. As @exteegi mentioned, I also really liked the cooldowns. I run linux, I tried running the exe with wine, it sort of worked but then it lost keyboard input and I was stuck.
The dark edges provided a bit of a challenge, in subsquent plays I realized if I looked carefully in the shadows, I could see the enemy sooner. Of course, I may just have my brightness turned down too much. But would have been easier if I could see them earlier.

Hey, you did really good for your first jam! Especially with all the polish you managed to put on. It's a fun and idea and it's executed well. Good job!

Wish I had more space in the "arena". Some enemies spawned in the dark corners and then damaged me immediately. But otherwise pretty cool game, looks clean, feels good to play and I really like trying to hastily remember the combinations xD

I think the rocket explodes on your own shield, not sure if that's intentional or not. Otherwise a really solidly executed concept.

The morse code combos make for a really interesting input system! Reminds me of games with spell combo systems like Magicka.
