Play the game online on itch.io: https://choconita.itch.io/copythat

You don’t speak the language. You just need to get through.

Copythat is a language-deciphering card game about faking it to make it. Watch the locals, memorize their glyphs, and play your cards right to survive everyday social minefields, from tense security checkpoints to back-alley contraband deals. Blend in, mimic the rhythm, and don’t blow your cover.

👾Features👾:

  • Unique retro-future aesthetic, featuring handcrafted and charming alien creatures.
  • Card combo dialogue, build sentences by playing cards in sequence
  • Card-based dialogue system where every conversation is a puzzle.
  • Two acts, six levels — from border control to back-alley deals
  • Inspired by Chants of Sennaar and Paper Please

👾How To Play👾:

  • Simple Controls. Just point and click .

  • Watch the Queue. Study the locals to decode their symbols and master their logic.

  • Bridge the Gap. Use Item Cards for objects and Semantic Cards for intent to navigate the social minefield.

A cool game for composing hieroglyphs, I really enjoyed it, but it was too difficult for my little brain. I would have made it a little easier.

Despite the simple mechanics, the implementation is excellent.
The art is very beautiful, and the soundtrack is pleasant.

But the symbols are a bit difficult to remember at first.

Thank you for your game!

fun idea and as a visual learner it was quite easy for me to pick up the alien language :D I also love the aesthetic of the game

PS: does the alien officer say "what you want?" it sounds like that to me

Simple and fun game.

It's a good thing we don't know what the guy says when we make a mistake!

I would never memorize the patterns, so I had to take a lot of screenshots to finish the game, and the last level was kind of trial and error.

But interestingly, the game's setting is really cool, it reminded me of Rick and Morty (when it was good).

The music, art style, and sound effects are great. All I could think about while playing this was that scene from Rick and Morty when Jerry tries to buy a transportation back to earth after escaping his daycare. Great game!

I've felt anxiety standing in those lines haha!
Good take on the theme. And great art! Simple concept but it works. Great job.

Pattern recognition combined with logic puzzles was way too difficult for me, haha, but that didn't diminish my amazement at the game's art style and overall polish. I'm so glad I got to play it, even though I had to guess many times before I could pass each level.

Loved the presentation, the art and sounds were great. Did seem like it ramped up in difficulty extremely fast, but maybe that's just me

Loved the artstyle. Was sort of getting it but probably would have needed pencil and paper and still not sure I picked everything up. Still fun

It's a simple game, but it's well designed. I was immediately bored, but on the whole, you well done for trying to interpret the theme. Good luck in further games.

@universeflow Actually it's the word for the object. we recorded our own voices and used software to add some stylistic effects. Each item has its own audio clip, but unfortunately we didn’t have time to include them all haha.

Damn, love the style! The cashier's a total hardass, he wouldn't let me in no matter what 🤣

This game has excellent graphics and sound. The artwork has a lot of character. I got through some of the puzzles by learning the alien lingo, but eventually got stumped. That is more a statement about me than the game—deciphering alien languages is not my strong suit. Still, I made some progress and it was a good mental exercise. Without a doubt, you nailed the theme. Overall, a solid entry that shows quite a bit of imagination.

Interesting game. Took me a while to figure out even level 1 -- definitely an engaging puzzler. Love the art style.

Excellent work -- well done!

This game looks amazing!! I had a very hard time with deciphering the messages but i got my head around it eventually, definitly worth working on more levels after jam!!

I totally wasn't expecting to be quizzed on previous rounds! That got me. Very cool game, awesome art, and the ambient music hit just right for line-waiting!

Really enjoyed it, although the difficulty spikes dramatically after first and second level xD I get it was probably game jam time limitation, but still, worth mentioning. The next area where I had to use dot-line symbols as well I totally didn't get and just guessed at this point and gave up after 2 levels. Would love some tutorial on that! Great concept though and very fun game. Would love to play it, once it gets some tutorial, balancing!

The gameplay of this game is very simple. Just select and click, and you'll quickly get the hang of it. I think the art design is very innovative, and there are numerous details. It's really not easy to achieve such a result in such a short time. It's very well done and shows a lot of care.
