Dot Dash Mash by chybby

SOLVE PUZZLES TO ASSIST IN SENDING MORSE CODE MESSAGES DESPITE INTERFERENCE.
FULLY PLAYABLE IN THE BROWSER.
CONTROLS. - USE THE MOUSE. - ESC TO PAUSE.
Go have a play, but come back here if you get stuck:
Morse clue
This tells you what letter you need to encode in this row/column. Listen carefully to the sequence of long and short tones.
Morse decoder
This tells you what letter is currently encoded in this row/column and whether that's the correct letter.
Puzzle board
This is where you enter your solution as a sequence of ON and OFF tiles:

Blank and "X" tiles are both treated as OFF - you can just use the "X" tile to mark a space you know is definitely OFF.
Encode a short tone (dot) with a single ON tile by itself, and a long tone (dash) with groups of two or more ON tiles.
Made in Godot 4.6 by Adam and Josh. All art and audio were made from scratch during the jam.
Post-jam patches:
- 22/04/2026 - Fix a bug that would incorrectly mark a level as complete
- 22/04/2026 - Fix a bug in audio ducking

I like the idea, and the execution is very polished too. Great work.
I also found a bug in the game. If you turn off the music and then send any signal, even an empty one, all the settings are reset.
Did I miss the explanation of how to use the "X"?
Perhaps you should add more detailed instructions to the game description :)
This was hard as hell, even as a Picross fan! Really liked the twists: the inversion of rows, and of course the whole thing being all "1" and "2+" clues. I definitely used trial and error in a couple spots, and I assume that's needed? Pretty hard to avoid that, all within 72 hours.
Well done, fellas!
Good job! Interesting idea!
As a bit of a nonogram junky, it's nice to have a fresh way to look at it and I had a lot of fun playing through this. Smart puzzle designs.
Would have loved the ability to recolor certain tiles or lock in rows as complete while I experiment on others but that's just nitpicking wishful thinking in a jam setting.
Game feels really polished for being made in three days.
Great entry! Good job, team!
I really love Picross and I think you’ve come up with a super twist. I must admit I was really surprised and delighted when I saw the ‘vertical’ row added to the horizontal words I’d already found.
At the moment, I’m stuck on “Remarkable” / “Town”; I’ve got one letter left to correct, but I can’t seem to figure it out. I’ll come back to it a bit later, as I’m really keen to see how it ends ! ;)
I've just noted three areas for improvement / post-gamejam:
- the speed at which text appears in speech bubbles (it could be a little faster)
- sometimes the speech bubble stays on the screen a little too long, which hides the grid
- the ability to go back a step or two will be perfect
Well done anyway, the game is really enjoyable !!
Edit : Finished it ! And I talked about it to my friends :)
The graphics, audio, puzzles are all very well ironed out. Only two points of feedback:
- It could really use a level select screen though. I got stuck at the level where one of the words were "remarkable". I just could not fit the last letter into the signal
- The text for the dialogue is a bit slow for my taste
Simple yet effective, i like that the music fades out a little when listening to the code.
I did frequently find myself wishing I had some way to mark cells as "must be lit", or rows and columns as "must be inverted/not inverted", as I ended up needing to take notes outside the game a couple of times to record that information, but this was a minor thing.
I loved that the only way to know what letter belonged in a row/column was to hear the morse code. It really helped to cement in the theme, and I found it fun as a refresher on a bit of morse too, even though learning the letter associations wasn't actually important to the puzzle at all.
The art, sound and music are all very simple, but fit quite well and none were distracting. All the interactions worked perfectly for me, and I didn't find any bugs at all. Solid entry, extremely enjoyable, and very impressive. Nice work, and thanks for the game!
My only source of criticism is that the text boxes went through the dialogue a little too slowly.
Great job!
I also couldn't figure out how to get the dialogue to skip ahead faster. It felt pretty slow to read the text.
The buttons feel very tactile though. Which I love.
some of the later puzzles were too much for me, I just couldn't figure them out, but that's entirely a me problem.
I liked the gameplay tho! I thought the puzzles did an excellent job keeping the gameplay fresh by introducing new twists and mechanics with each one
A good combination of nonogram and morse code, nice entry!
I know how difficult puzzles are, as I focus exclusively on puzzles
Excellent interpretation of nonograms. The variable dash length adds a touch of flavor, although I'm not sure it keeps the puzzle clean. Apparently, there may be multiple solutions, and not all moves can be reached by following clear logic and process of elimination
The reverse mechanic is also interesting. At first, I tried entering the string in the opposite direction, and then I tried changing the short signals to long ones. There was a bit of frustration, and only then did I understand how it should be done.
In any case, this is a great puzzle, which I completed with great pleasure. I was even curious about how much you enjoy puzzles, where you get your inspiration, and whether you've developed other puzzles. I didn't find many puzzles on your itch

At first, the game seemed simple, but once it introduced crossing Morse signals both vertically and horizontally, it became really interesting and challenging.
Overall, this is a highly engaging mini-game—one I’d actually choose to play just for fun. Without a doubt, one of the strongest entries for me!

The concept of nonogram-like puzzles matching morse code is a neat use of the theme. It would have been nice to have a way to make some notes about what pattern I want for a column once I have identified the correct letter.
- on itch for some reason the window was too large and not everything was visible (on a 4k monitor), but it worked fine in fullscreen
- the instructions come in too slow
- i didnt understand immediately, that its irrelevant when beeps start/how long long ones are. Probably my fault, lol.
Amazing game!
Very interesting concept as well, and the art style was very fitting.
If you continue this I'd recommend adding some speed sliders, especially the dialogue could have been faster for me.
Loved, then hated, then loved again the inversion twist :)
Nice chill music.
A few things that could improve the game IMO :
- speed that dialog box please ! life is too short for this
- make the cross appear with right click ; left click only for toggling the box (on mobile, maybe one tap for filling and holding for the cross ? or just keeping the current layout)
I would have loved to be able to save a position (when I know it's true and I did not do any guessing), and be able to restore it (when I made a guess, then realized it was not possible). I took screenshots instead, but it's more tedious.
Bravo !
I will admit that the later levels did start to frustrate me, though. They just got so large, and provided so little information (short patterns for long rows/columns), that solving them took a lot of trial and error. I couldn't make logical deductions at the outset like I could on the earlier levels, instead only being able to see the consequences of my placements after filling out the majority of the board. That made the levels very time-consuming, so I didn't feel I'd enjoy pushing through the rest of them.
Regardless, I enjoyed playing this overall! It feels very polished, and the amount of content present is impressive for a jam game.
