DOT & DASH by Kenoshka

[raw]
made by Kenoshka for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

This game consists of three mini-games where you use telegraph key and Morse code.

We planned to add at least five levels with different usages of Morse code, but due to the lack of time we completed only three.

Code - Kenoshka and stIx

Really cool take on the classic typing game. I could actually see myself learning morse code through a game like this.

Very fun! Loved the graphics. I thought it was cool how you made such a fun game with not many controls, and the morse code was fun.

I love how you incorporated visuals to a morse code mini-game, it just makes it more interesting than pressing letters that pop up on screen. It could definitely use more levels, preferably with a wide variety of letters that you would need to press.

It's also just missing the beep sound effect when you press space. That would make it really satisfying.

Such a fun idea utilizing morse code for the different mini games! Makes for a cute educational game on that feature.

that was challenging haha, and quite fun. As others have said, a beep would have been really satisfying. But overall a really great entry.

Cool, I liked the game, it's very unusual to control Morse code lol, I even passed the race

Awesome game! Well done, it was incredibly fun to play and took a good amount of time to master the morse code to beat all three levels. Love it!

Took a bit of time until I realized you can only type one letter at a time. But was a fun challenge.

Using Morse code is a really original interpretation of the signal theme, and I think the idea itself is very creative.

Personally, the games were not very engaging for me because I am not a big fan of typing games. I kept thinking that the Morse code concept could become even stronger if it were combined with other mechanics instead of being the only focus.

For example, in the first game I could imagine exploring the island, gathering food, avoiding monsters, and using the Morse code system during quieter moments to contact SOS. I think that could make the signal mechanic feel even more exciting and meaningful.

In any case, this is a very creative response to the theme!

Oh, this is your first game jam! Congratulations! This game is really challenging. It would be great if there were symbol hints. Maybe there are, but I couldn't find them, sorry.
I'd also like to be able to erase Morse code symbols if I accidentally miss-clicked. I lost a few times because of that, which was a shame. I really enjoyed the car minigame, especially the last car you have to drive around. Great job!

@darizz yeah, its our first time, will try to participate every time until LD64 :D
thanks for the feedback, btw symbol hints are at the second page of the book, there are buttons above it to switch tabs.

cool idea but feels really challenging. the car game was way to stressful for me also it feels like having all the letter shown makes it way harder then just showing the letters / numbers you need

It's a cool game, although the controls aren't immediately clear, but once you figure it out, you feel better.

A great idea for this game jam theme, well executed, the last stage was a bit tricky for me! The trick to winning was writing down the commands on a piece of paper instead of looking them up in the list every time!
PS: Now I know how to use the S.O.S. signal in Morse code, so thank you for that!

Quite original game, with cool mechanics, but for me in the end it got too much challenging, as i need to switch tabs constantly to understand what i should type. With cars it was nice, as i started to memorise the code, but with rockets it was too much for me. Anyway it was fun, keep it up!

Interesting how fast I could learn the essential morse code signs by just playing those three levels! It is almost an edutainment game (that actually was fun!)

I like the second mini game. Control a car with morse code is interesting. Third mini game is too hard for me, but it's cool anyway. Also nice audio.

It was fun but the third game is too hard. The mine spawns right in front of you at the last moment. :(

This has a lot of potential as a teaching tool! I like how each level is reusing some letters from previous levels, so as you go, you are learning more and more letters.

very interesting interpretation of the theme! level 1 seemed too simple to me, but starting from level 2 - the game opens up over time! the level with the car was challanging, but I managed it haha

the graphics and music are also top-notch, a very well-polished game! i hope you continue development and make more levels as planned!
