Late For Work by ScrapMetal

[raw]
made by ScrapMetal for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

Well... that was a total fail. Decided to upload what I had anyway.

Tried 3D this time... and while I had a blast, everything took longer than I expected.

CONTROLS:

  • Use arrow keys or WASD to drive.
  • Spacebar to honk
  • You can use the arrow keys or WASD to flip back over if you go upside down.

My original idea was to have a chaotic driving game where "Larry" was always running late to work and causing mayhem along the way. The main goal was to get to work as fast as possible. Bonuses for arriving 'less late'.

I wanted him to flip people off along the way, as well as stop at coffee shops as they would allow you to burst through things causing more destruction.

Probably a little too ambitious for this jam. :grimacing: So now it's just a very mid driving game.

Love the animation style! And even though it's not finished, I still had fun zooming around and tumbling over the ramp :)

The visuals are great, the style is very cute, and the physical interactions in the game make me feel really happy—hahahahaha

The artstyle is really great. Yes, choosing 3D for a solo game for the game jam can increase the scope of the game but at least you have nice fundation for a game! Thanks to publish something anyway!

DRIVING IN MY CAR RIGHT AFTER A BEER🗣🗣🗣
The game is fun and goofy. For a solo project that's great, but would be fun to actually USE the signal to... scare people, who tries to walk on your way, something like that... Hope you will develop it more in the future!

It's a shame it wasn't finished, it would definitely have been funny.

@crimsontrouper Driving after a beer would definitely improve the experience.:red_car::rofl:

The driving experience is much better than I thought. I'd say it's way better than Cyberpunk 2077!

It's a pity that you couldn't finish the game, because what you already have is well done, all that remains is to make the levels.

Oh an other driving game ! The physics looks good, it's too bad you did not had time to do all you wanted... Would have loved to see the complete game !

Definitely see the potential here. the art style is neat, the controls are responsive, and the sound effects works. The physicss for the driving is good too. You could definitely pull something together out of this!

The camera work is really awesome! You did a great job on that! I can totally picture what the full game would look like. It has potential.

It would be nice if the camera wasn't quiet as erratic as it was, slowing it down by half would probably feel much nicer.
The car controlled pretty well for the most part, its a shame you didn't get more game in, because i think as a package this could have felt quiet nice.
Audio and visuals were nicely polished.
Great to see you making an attempt at 3d, best of luck on the next jam!

I didn't find a game, only car mechanic. Potentially it could give a lot of fun but currently just a good starting point.

I'd love to see this extended into a game because the driving feels incredibly snappy! When you accelerate to high speeds it feels really satisfying and I would have loved to crashed into cars and pedestrians along the way :cop:
But unfortunately, there aren't really any game mechanics other than a tiny (but good looking!) map to drive back and forth on.
Still, I'm sure you've learned a lot during the jam and your result makes me want to see more.

The visuals already look great and the ride feels fun! I was right to choose not to get a license xD
