77 Years - A Game of Expansion by David Cookie

[raw]
made by David Cookie for LD36 (JAM)
A puzzle/strategy/card game.

The flint lets you build other technologies in adjacent tiles.

> 1st phase: try to build technologies of the same color next to each other (the flint doesn't count).
> 2nd phase: make 15 hits combo.
> 3rd phase: be happy :)

I've never created this kind of gameplay before and it was quite the challenge I would say. It does take several tries to fully apprehend it and "control the randomness". Hope you'll enjoy it!

Made in ~30 hours with Construct 2. Music with Ableton Live.
Also: Photoshop, Audacity and free sounds.

This is Awesome! I liked it! My final score is 4061.
Nice graphics and sounds, also great music playing in the background, and it was "kind of" creative. :)

I got confused of what should I do at the beginning, was it just to pick the highest, I think... but then I realized.

But anyways, a very great job!

First play, i was not really sure if i had an influence on my score. But in fact you can develop some nice strategies.

I like the fact that you got around the difficulty of counting adjacent tiles by making the player doing it ^^ smart trick

Nice entry ;)

I love the anticipation aspect! And the random which is very well managed!
Good work!

1555 points...on a fluty run. Seems like I don't understand rules yet.
Doesn't really matter, I like the feeling very well, SFX are not agressive, and music is rly quiet too, it totally fits the gameplay. Global implementation is smart, game is addictive... it is a real GG.
Beau boulot !

262963! Not sure I understood all gameplay subtleties except that war seems to be the easy way.

Nice music and great art! 610, would be nice to be able to influence the game more than random chance. The single flint stops always ruined it for me :(

interesting concept but I agree with other players that it would have been nic to influence somehow the score and the tile placement.
otherwise really nice graphics nad sounds which fit nicely the theme. very polished!

Thanks for the comments! I recognize the randomness can be a little bit punitive, but it was intended as it is part a "card" game (it was too simple without). With several tries, it's really possible to figure out how to reduce the random impact and make a good score :)

Deceptively challenging and interesting game; at first I was completely lost and thought it was too random, but I once I realized that there needs to be a flint next to a square in order to place other types it made a lot more sense and I did a lot better on my second playthrough.

The music is nice too!

Great entry!

I found myself on the first play just clicking on the highest number. On the second I understood how to influence those number.

Slick presentation. Effecient music. Nice Art. Impressive over all

Interesting concept, good graphics well done.
At first I was unsure of what to do I just pressed on the flint most of the time, and then added other colours to my island, but I later figured how to play the game, again well done.
