Treasure Hook by Monado
(As pointed out by a comment, the LD web version of the game gets cut off. Its recommended to play the itch.io version in fullscreen, linked below) (There is a known bug where the maze will generate and block off a section by generating on top of it. There was not enough time in the jam to get this patched out. Doesn't always happen though.)

It's rumored that at the end of the labyrinth is a giant diamond... Who knows what that thing is worth. Many have tried to find it, and many have failed, but none of them have tried using a... Grappling Hook?
They say no two people have the same experience inside of the maze...
This is a 2D platformer about exploring and collecting treasure!

In the second screen I managed to immediately grapple myself into the wall and get stuck there forever :laughing:
I would be glad if you play our game.
@trusty @millie Thank you!
It’s a shame I’m terrible at platformers, otherwise I would’ve gone much further. 😄
Also was surprised at the amount of content it just kept going. Always love a grapple hook as well. Although found a little later that you can sort of spam it to make some of the platforming a bit too easy. Great job especially for a solo game. :thumbsup:

sometimes they'll spawn as normal though
I think the map could also have been smaller - I feel like I would often go through several "rooms" without encountering an enemy or any new features. For games with a short development time, like Ludum Dare, I've found in the past it's difficult to make procedurally generated games that have a lot of depth to them, and it's usually better to focus on crafting a smaller, but manually designed map (this also allows you to playtest and ramp up the difficulty curve as the player goes along, with more control than a randomly generated map).
Overall, great job, it's a really cute game you made! I really like the animations you made, especially for the player. I know how difficult it is to make animations (I'm personally terrible at making them!) but you made them feel really smooth.
@gullyngames Thank you! I think it might have just been some bad luck when it came to the seed you got, that is partially on me though. I didn't realize how big some of the layouts could get when I was testing, and came to realize I accidentally made it so the map could branch off in many more ways than I would have liked. Most of the seeds I've played have been pretty decent in length (in my opinion of course), but post-jam testing I've realized just how big they can get and didn't see that when testing. Im guessing you got one of the unlucky large maps
That being said, thank you for the kind words!
However, I still didn't understand what the coins were for or where to get the key. I also had a glitch with the rope swing, which caused me to get stuck in a swinging position.
@trevor-mae Thank you too!
It seems like making the grappling hook aimed with the keyboard might not have been the way to go seeing all of the feedback so far; if I end up making a post-jam build I'll definitely be changing that to work with the mouse instead. Seems like its one of those mechanics you get so used to using while developing, you forget how difficult it'll be to use for most players
Pleasant music and nice graphics, I see you put good effort in the animations and effects.
Gameplay felt janky in places but overall okay. I kind of wanted to hurt the enemies with the hook instead of risking my own health going in melee. As for the bouncy slime blocks, I expected to be able to time myself and get a boost.
Didn't complete the game but found myself to level 2.
Well done!
