Hold up! I just became aware of some missing libs on the file, but am not near my PC until later today. Sorry! I invite you to come back soon and check it out for real.

The town has been under the oppression of demons, and the people are restless. You play as a traveling preacher, ready to use the power of prayer and spiritual fighting attacks to cast out the demons and deliver the evil from this town. box-art.png This was made in 48 hours for the Compo, using C++ and SFML 2.6.x. With the time limit, I did trim a few ideas. That is why there are 3 attack buttons but their execution is essentially the same.

Controls: * WASD movement * JKL attacks * Space Bar gathers prayer power * I toggles the key control list * O toggles the music

unfortunately the game does not start gives an error that the file VCRUNTIME140_1D.dll was not found

Nice work on the graphics! Not polished, but the overall style is cool, and the walk animations are solid. That said, I couldn't really figure out what was happening... using the prayer power seems to make demons come out of people, and also seems to make demons come down, but I can't figure out how the fighting works! Really like the addition of the keymap right in the game though!

Nice work! I really liked the music. There didn't seem to be much of a challenge to it though, I just held spacebar near people then spammed the punch button at the things that came out of them, there didn't seem to be an sort of penalty for getting hit by them.

Interesting graphic style. Need more attack feedback. It's hard to know when to attack and whether hitted.

It works in wine on Linux, which is nice.
I thought about the "Deliver us from evil" line as well when I heard the theme. I dropped the idea because I wasn't sure what to do with it. I am glad to see someone else picked that up and ran with it. I wonder about how well ideas like spiritual warfare can be represented in a game like this. That probably takes a multi-year dissertation rather than a weekend jam. Cheers!

@pvg thank you for considering that. Really, it isn't very cut-and-dried for a jam/compo. In the idea phase, I had considered the question "what can I use to show the player how each person is oppressed by demons?" My imagination went to a bunch of complex issues that brought me to conclude "no, these people will just look pushed down..."

Love the idea of deliver us from a religious context, and the prayer powered beat-em-up. Also quite funny when the red-eyed dudes stomped me.

Very nice take on the theme. Was a bit confused as to what the goal was initially, but eventually figured it out.

I watched The Omen like two weeks ago, so this reminded me a little bit of it. Music is very good! Graphics are pretty simple, but work. Attacking and fighting could have more feedback, but come on, that's problem with my game too, so I definitely understand. Nice entry. :)

wow, it took me a while to understand how not to die to the black shadows, but nice done! The paint looking art is kinda of cool too! The audio is not blasting or something, and the controls are pretty fluid. Nice done!

If I knew faith let me fire a Kamehameha, I would probably go to church more often.

It was a bit unclear what I was supposed to do at first. I think you should make it more obvious what attacks work on what enemy. Once I did figure it out though, I had fun blasting the demons out of people and uppercut-ing them. Graphics are and audio are simple but they do the job well enough. I like how the use of the theme is more interesting that just the literal interpretation.

I have absolutely no idea what I did but I somehow won? I just pressed space and black things came down to spin me around until the game ended but I guess that's just how prayer works.

Fun little entry!!! The way of killing the enemies was interesting but the 3 different kind of hits was a little too much. Health would've been also nice 😋
