Popcorn Odyssey by 0X_VOID_X0
ScreenShots:

Story:
Go through the adventure of a popcorn seed and how it gets delivered from the popcorn tree (yes that's a thing here), into a new hole in the soil to become a beautiful tree, unlike your average plant seed a popcorn seed fights for it's own survival and has to Pop itself around until it reaches a hole.
some selling points: - the game offers a good challenge - popcorn goes brrrrrrr - if you beat the game, there is an original rap song in the end, I hope you cringe to it as much as I did while making it lol
Credits:
As always assets in this game are original or under a free license, The game is made with the Godot Engine.
Update:
I pushed a new update for bug fixing and minor tweaks based on feedback I got, it's recommended that you play the new version since it doesn't change the core experience, the update includes: - parallax background zoom seems to cause motion sickness to many people so it's now no longer an issue - fixed some unfair tiles positioning near the ending of levels, it's not cool to lose all your progress because of one tile - added a statue in the honor of @kujoen and @polite-prinny who managed to speedrun the game in a incredible way!

It's very hard to find anything wrong with the game. If I had to nitpick, though, the fact that you have to restart the whole level even if you've made a lot of progress but failed was a bit frustrating too me. But it's more of a personal preference, than a problem with the game. And also I got stuck on a spring on the 7th level above the starting point, but it was solved with a restart button, although it was painful to restart the level again .
Overall an amazing challenging and unique game!
Do you like jazzzzz?
Here is a link to the VOD that starts at your section.

The levels can be quite challenging but once I mastered the technique, it feels really nice. The sign boards of each levels helped a lot.
Btw I love the ending song, surely it worth my effort on the last level XD
Nice work!
Unfortunately the last level was too much for me :pensive: especially after I died literally 1 tile away from the end and never managed to get back there. Oh well. The popcorn rap will have to remain a mystery to me.

- i enjoy the vibes of the chill audio and it goes great with the art!
- big plus points that you can restart the levels at any time, but i would suggest adding a few extra savepoints
- the new features are introduced nicely so you know what you're supposed to be doing
It does remind me of a game for mobile phones and alike, however the taxi-
Those timers where you wait for the taxi tho... My heart! Lastly, the long jump of trust on the row of leaves was fun and satisfying [having seen it at the start of the level was a smart move]. For me, that was the perfect ending. This be my first game to rate, so have not really material to compare it to- but for me it was amazing~
Not sure how many of these skips you intended for, but they were fun to run/discover.

I challenge anyone to beat my speedrun of 3 min and 6 seconds.
Until then, I shall assume the title of "Popcorn King"
hail to the king of popcorn
I feel honoured that you want to add something for me :D. Perhaps a little duck somewhere :D (they are my favourite animal).
Glad you and your brother enjoyed it. Keep up the gamedev :)
great entry! lots of polish!
I'm popcorn king, nothing less! ヽ(>∀<☆)ノ
I did find some delicious cheese on level 7 that let me skip the whole top part of the level, which was nice because that 2nd to last jump is brutal.
Adding the reset button was a good idea, it really helped me keep going when I got stuck.
 really awesome!
I like your game! Some feedbackpoints for you:
- I would have liked that the launchstrength is based on the duration of the mouseclick, instead of using the cursor position. After 3 levels, I still click and hold and then I'm startled that the popcorn is already launched. Although, that makes it really feel like angry birds and I can see that you did not want that
- At the level with the bee I almost fell out of my chair thinking it was a real one hahahaha
- The mechanic for manipulating the upwards/downwards trajectory feels very nice
- Some kind of level count would have been nice. Something basic like "4/5" for example. Or better: a level select screen! But I can understand that such screen is way down on the priority list
- The soft wall looked a bit like cobblestone for me, maybe someting fluffy like cotton candy would have fitted better
- The music though.... I love it! It is very detailed and fits perfect for what you are going with here!
- I took the "pro's" only as a challenge and I loved it
- The intro is epic! I think without the godot eating your logo it would be more serious
Sadly I could not get past level 9 :-( There is a jump (after breaking the two walls) I just can't make. Maybe that part could have been a little more forgiving.
Solid game! I had lots of fun playing it!

Most strats are copied from the previous WR holder. We found a new strat for level 7 and the strat in level 9 got improved slightly.
Our team really likes your game! You cannot image how much fun we had and how much time we wasted trying to break level 5 and 7. Keep up the good work!
(Please let my mate @kujoen keep his statue, he deserves it! (I'll still take his title. I AM THE NEW POPCORN KING))
As our traditions go, I shall built a statue in your honor, of course I'll keep kujeon's status as admiration for his great efforts but I can totally do another one, what do you wish for as a status?
I'm glad you had fun with your team! I hope it wasn't too rage inducing lol, and yes there was an update that slightly changed the tiles placement after watching many people unfairly die in some places especially near the end, I won't be touching any tiles now I promise . you crazy crazy people!
I'd love a penguin statue.
Make sure to include an online scoreboard the next time you create such a speedrunnable game!
No worries, the game wasn't rage inducing at all <3

Really sloppy deaths/resets early and later, but the new :eyes: skip saved me so much time.
Unfortunately I forgot to record audio, so listen to some smooth jazz instead :D
Will be going for a cleanrun. Sub 2:30 is possible for sure.
The speedrun is starting to get really hard though. There are still a few skips that are just too unreliable right now.
Cheers
But, I cannot let you take my WR! www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIC18ukjTsE
2:43 is the new WR. Still doesn't include the level 5 skip AND had a few misplays. Even went for the safe path in level 9. Pretty sure we can go a lot lower
I can't even keep up with all the record breaks, you 2 are killing me (in a good way )

I do want to say i wish the camera and the launch distance weren't both mapped to the mouse.
congratulations!

saw the rest of the game past when I crashed from pomo's run through it. The ending rap is great
(don't tell anyone )

Unfortunately I forgot to record, so I can only provide the screenshot. I might do some more runs to get sub 2:10 though, but it will be really tough.
I think sub 2:00 is possible, there are some insane skips left :)
Cheers!
I think some people may be turned off by the difficulty wall, but IMO the fact it gets constantly harder makes it more engaging. Other people obviously agree given that there are speedrunners in your comments.
Sound was really good. Effects on the character are really cute, definitely softens the blow of the frustration in the later levels 😋 Music also high quality, especially the rap at the end!
Graphics are decent, nice tileset, good animations, everything is nice and clear.
Player controller is great. The main aim-and-release mechanic feels spot on, and the subtle influence you have over the popcorn's trajectory adds a whole other layer to it. I'd like to see more levels that require double-jump and `WS` movement perfection!
Great entry - easily a top 50 competitor IMO.
May be problem with monitor framerate? ( I have 144Hz)
I like the concept, it seem fun to play, if there will not be shaking issue
Also nice idea to put best score statues here

The way the camera zooms in and out can be a little disorienting. It might be nice to have a more exciting visual indicator of movement in the air, in addition to the arrow (e.g. the popcorn could wiggle its legs) but apart from that I can't think of anything to nitpick.
I wish I had a popcorn tree.
Cool game with some deep mechanics! It could use some tweaks to the controls & game juice. Loved the music and sound effects.
My game was also projectile-based, and I coincidentally had camera issues for my web-build. I've read that rounding the position of the projectile can help. It seemed to work for me.
This is such a delightful game and idea for the jam, it totally fits too! I like the physics and extra challenge of additional controls too! There are so many good games this jam, and this is one of them! <3
The level design is done really well, it's noticeable that you made a proper difficulty curve, as well as were able to play around with the concepts introduced in a creative way without it feeling bland or too cluttered. And having little workarounds, cheeses and other stuff really shows how well the mechanics were handled. I mean you alredy have speedrunners, haha!
Wanted to give special attention to the graphics and audio. They're really pleasant. The visuals are nice and cute. And the sound is cozy and not annoying, which is amazing considering that it has to be looping all the time. I especially liked the you like jazz sound effect.
Also the idea with a popcorn tree is quite bizarre I love it haha. The only nitpick I'd have I guess is that it's not clear how it's related to the theme, but I don't think it's that important.
A really good game. Amazing job!
Just the camera move too hard make me a little bit dizzy (when follow mouse aiming it zoom in zoom out too fast and follow popcorn bouncing also move too hard)
I was really impressed with the aesthetics, there's a good amount of detail even though it's all fairly simple, it fits great.
I had some difficulties putting my trust in the bouncy pads, though it never really got in the way of my enjoyment.
The pacing was great, and overall everything worked pretty well. Good job!
The overall gameplay is great - the controls feel nice, the levels seem to have a nice progression to them, and they keep introducing new mechanics (and there's an impressive amount of them!). The camera zoom on launch power change is great, too, though maybe the game could use some sort of manual camera movement system to look ahead at the level before going there with the popcorn. That would especially be helpful when you have to start dealing with the timed leaves (which probably should be distinguishable from the standard ones, but if you wanted to make a trap for the player it works pretty well :P).
The graphics are nice, there's the cute main character, some nice tiles, lots of obstacles and angry bugs. The audio design is also good, with everything having its fitting sound, and a nice cheerful background music. Well done!
Lol - I thought that it was your entry for the LD54. I understand that it was your entry for the 53LD. I hope that you can read my words. Have you made something for this LD session? ++
I couldn't finish my entry in time for LD54 and decided to quit after overscoping, don't worry I'll be back as hell next time!! I appreciate your kind words my friend.
