Tower of Kraduul by Zliebowitz

[raw]
made by Zliebowitz for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

A deck building/tower defense hybrid where you take command of an army to defend Kraduul's last settlement of humanity against hordes of unbidden.

Controls

Click on a card to play it. You can only play a card if you have enough mana. When you are done playing cards, press the end turn button, and your minions will march their way to fight against the unbidden. 10 seconds later, your mana will refill and you draw more cards to play.

Every two turns, you add another card to your deck, making it more powerful. You also gain 1 maximum mana when this happens, up to a maximum mana of 8.

Make it to turn 33 to win!

Post Jam Bug Fixes

  • Fixes Defeat Screen Animation.
  • Dead minions and monster don't take damage.
  • Minor balancing was needed after fix
  • Moved Card to fix click dead spots

Love it! only issue I have is that the Ancient relic seems a bit too overpowered.

Really Fun, the ancient guardians seem to be OP though, at some point I just stacked them together with those shield walkers and oneshot everything that came on screen. Maybe I needed to continue playing for more enemies, let me know if that's the case. Love the animation on the black blob. Nice!

This game is fun. The difficulty when you first start seems a little high, but if you can make it to a point where you gain more mana and better units, you can crush the oncoming hoards.

Nice tower defense game. When I saw the invisible wall blocking my unit, I thought there wasn't a victory screen but turns out I was wrong :) got it after pressing end turn.

Congrats on the submission and thanks for the game :)

Nice game, also found Ancient Relics a bit op. Visible healthbars or some other indicator would've helped me understand when units are taking damage. Artstyle does a lot with a little - love the blob enemy animations. Music great too. What does the name Kraduul come from?

Ahhh I died at turn 30, but fun experience all around! I feel like it could go a little faster, but otherwise it was a lovely game

Loved the turn based style. I played very longer than I would expect at the begining. The art was very limited, but eveything is in the game play

@zwodaha The game automatically ends at the 33rd round. The invisible wall is independent of that. Both could defnitely be communciated better, but well, time limits are annoying.

@fizzbark My instinct wast hat visible health bars would be difficult due to the clumping of units. I certainly could be wrong. @zabenderman will have to get you the answer on the name. I've accepted that giving him anything lore related will turn out well!

Really compelling. The friendlies walking past the hard earned barricades was a bit of a problem but the game sounded great and the sprites were really well done.

Great game, always loved deckbuilding. Some of my suggestions are: making more variety in the beggining - it feels like there are nobreainer choices considering mana, also maybe making a game a bit harder and more challenging. Good job overall!

Fun game, reminds me of good old Age of War. :) Both the cards and the turn system adds some nice depth to the old formula, and the card selection is quite diverse considering it is a jam game.

I like the gameplay! It is impressive to put together a deckbuilding game under such time constraint! However, as a tower defense game, I don't like that my units are mindlessly walking towards the enemy. In my playthrough, I built an army of 1 costs, and they got wiped after going pass my walls. Perhaps adding controls to the units, or make them stay behind the walls.

finally! the third run was the good one!

i like this genre of games so i might be biased. maybe cards are a little bit unbalanced (3 or 4 ancient relics and you're almost unkillable). i loved art!

the only thing i felt was missing was the health bar on units, because first runs, i just sent units attack the big black ooze but it seemed unbeatable

good entry on the jam!

A had fun! It's a simple defense game, but the mood of the game made it enjoyable. The cards definitely need some rebalancing, and it would be nice to see health & other stats on all the units... but of course for a game in three days this is great ^_^

That was sooooo much fun ! It took me 3 runs to understand the meta but it was really satisfying to play.

I liked the enemies they had a vibe of "Dome Keeper". I think that if you'd balance it out, add more content and some QOL you'd have something to sell here

Keep it up !

Pretty unique mix of card game + autobattler.

I really wish I could see health bars and damage numbers, especially for the enemies. For example, I want to know if the 25 damage laser will kill my own units, or if it will kill the enemies. And I want to know how much attack each of the enemies has.

Little floating numbers whenever damage is dealt and health bars with little ticks for every multiple of 5 would probably be sufficient.

I liked it, but the game is very difficult to balance... I couldn't last long, but I liked it!

Nice game, most of the later rounds I had the _problem_ that I could simply play all cards since I had more mana than needed. The character art is really fitting and the music is great.

Good submission! I agree with others that the difficulty in the beginning is pretty high, but it evens out and becomes very rewarding. Enjoyed the music!

Good game! I really enjoyed the music, and the animations are very smooth as well.

Gameplay is solid and has good variety in cards. I like you implemented the theme in a non-stressful manner, not rushing player action. I do wish you could see some feedback on character actions. Health, damage dealt or taken, something.

Solid entry, good job!
