Any criticism I would say would be the lack of other gameplay elements and reason to be moving towards the lighthouse. Additionally, I felt like the lamp and the lightning gave me more context clues and help on where to go... while the lighthouse was just my beacon on the map on where to go.
Otherwise very nice! Good job!
I think some ambient music can fit very well.
Would've been really good if the boat was a bit more responsive to controls, it felt weird to turn.
I made it home yeah!!! But I'm really, really wet now.
Really engaging.Very well done!
Edit: I'm just keeping this up in the background now for the storm noise. So cozy
The sound effects along with the graphics really add to the atmosphere. I felt like I was reading an old book which narrates a story about an old man and the lighthouse. When he finally made it to home, he could feel the calm and peace.
The boundless ocean and the approching storm are not dreadful anymore, as long as the lighthouse stands guiding people through the darkest night.
The idea of the game is quite innovative and fits the theme well. Also amazing sound effects add to the already great visuals!
Great job!
You really realize how important a lighthouse is for someone who is lost on the sea.
This game go to my favorites
Really nice atmosphere and vibes with this one, and the controls felt representative of the motion without being cumbersome. It was cool to see that while I started out feeling quite lost, my target direction got more clear as I was getting closer. Nice job!
My only complaint, boats don't have breaks, it could add some challenge to only be able to slow yourself not stop.
I didn't entirely get what was happening with the beam though, a few times it flew past and didn't show anything in my way only for me to immediately run into a rock. Sometimes it worked though.
I loved the rowing animation. And I made it safely to the dock so all in all a good experience!

Really nice entry, huge gg!
Like it that you need to be lose to see the actual route.
It shows that there was a lot of work there: animation, sound, concept art.
TO IMPROVE: The animation of the rower rows backwards but the boat moves forward XD
Was amazed to see that the boatman has a white beard, jiggled a little as i saw it ^^
Its a simple game with a clear and reachable goal, i really felt like paddling throu the storm to safety, well done!
The lighting worked really well across all the sources, the lighthouse, the lightning, and the boat's lamp. The controls felt a bit chunky almost like a turn-based grid-based game, but I think that was probably smart given the challenge of staying oriented in the dark.
All in you really sold the experience of being in the boat in the dark, well done. I did wonder if you could sell the storm itself even better with a little more vertical wave motion... the sea felt maybe too calm. But again you're probably making tradeoffs against the player feeling oriented.
I managed to get home without hitting anything, and the great atmosphere got me into a slow and steady, cautious head space. I restarted just to test what would happen if I crashed, and I like the way you handled that, too.
Really nice compo entry!
succeeding in making such a result for a "compo game" is remarkable!
"I made it home !!"
My only nitpick is that the controls were a bit fiddly. I think since the light mechanic was the main focus, perhaps steering the boat should have been a bit easier?
That might just be personal preference though, and I did find the game very enjoyable regardless.
Some suggestions - I think adding a timer at the top that prints your run time at the end would be add a more competitive atmosphere and urgency to the game. I was also expecting my boat to break after too many runs into the rocks. but after testing it on another run I found that the boat is indestructible. I think it would be cool if you added this boat durability mechanic and a way to display that to the player. Overall, nice entry and congratulations on your submission!
First impressions - I loved the way the pixel and voxel graphics interacted with each other! I only wished the sailor character fit in with the graphics just like the boat and the rest of the asset ensemble, but it's amazing the way it is!
I enjoyed the risk-taking aspect of the game, where I could try row as much as possible, even when there was no light, making educated guesses as to where the next rocks might be.
In fact, I would probably enjoy the game even more if there was even more risk involved - say, if hitting too many rocks caused the boat to fall sink.
On the other hand, there were rocks that I felt the lighthouse didn't illuminate almost at all, despite them being right beside me, and I felt like that wasn't intentional (or at the very least, made those parts of the game a little more awkward to play).
The movement sometimes felt a little slow. Although rowing forward slowly very much added to the atmosphere of the game and I appreciate that - I felt like maybe the turning of the boat could have been made a little less subtle without ruining the feel of the game.
the only issue for me were controls not being super fluid to me. otherwise, excellent idea, great game!
my only small nitpicky problem is the voxel art for the boat and the rocks. they appear a bit out of place and could easily be replaced by some low poly models. Some stronger wind effects and maybe (just maybe) some ambient music could be nice too.
Extremely good entry overall, very nice work :]
