Welcome to PARALLAND!

In PARALLAND, you control a little guy who is trapped in a spell that makes the world flips between the normal dimension and the "paralland" one. The problem is that this new dimension is evil, full of bad creatures and traps.

You need to help the little guy to collect all the orbs stuck in Paralland in order to proceed to the portals and escape!

Controls

  • W, A, S, D - Move the Little Guy
  • Left Shift - Run
  • SPACE - Attack (if you can)

Extra Notes

This game was not only made from scratch in 72 hours, but also using my own custom game engine: Cave Engine. I took the time of the jam to also polish the engine and add countless new features (I've made 40 new commits to the engine's source code since the jam started... LOL). So it was extra hard for me to manage to make the game and the art for it during this tight time period. I apologize for the extra simplicity of it, but I hope you understand the reasons. :)

I liked the sound effects, and it matched the theme. I can't attack npcs by visualizing the sword. The animation was funny, slowing down the race a little in a short space he falls easily. Missed checkpoint I had to go back from the beginning. So the player is blocked on the bridge, a tip; would be to remove the collision from the bridge and put a plane on top of it. Awesome game, congratulations!!

Love the oldschool vibe. Sort of reminds me of psychonauts.

Self-made engine is the most coolest thing in game design!

Should be a little more visual feedback from the game. First minute was hard to understand, what changes every 10 seconds. Looks like we can't take a coins, possibly decision is add some animations. Nice try to make an AI. Great work for the solo project!

Your game looks pretty cool! It's amazing that you used your own engine to make the game, I tried to play it but unfortunately it doesn't open on my pc.

I have some troubles by playing the game: the time is slowing down when I'm not moving. So, I was waiting on the coin directly, without moving and it took me ~30 seconds to switch to the other world.

Like the old school vibe, the combat didn't really suit though. Feel like instead of fighting you should get a dash or something. Also found myself getting stuck in rocks a lot though. Apart from that, I feel like you've got a really cool start to a game!

Not sure I understand why it flips every ten seconds. When I can't collect the orbs, I am just waiting for the world to flip. Cool game engine though!

The sound design is good and general mood is established well, however I don't think the core mechanic was used in a very engaging way, felt I was mostly just waiting around

I think someone else mentioned it - this reminds me of "Psychonauts". Very cool look, and it's very impressive that you made your own engine for this. It seemed like I had periods of time where there was no gameplay to engage in, but understandable since you were working on engine stuff for part of the jam. Great work!

Short but nice game. The enemies don't seem to be working too well, since I bumped into then a few times but they didn't do any damage. Really cool to see you have developed your own engine!

Very great reverence for the game engine  !

I'm impressed that the game runs smoothly on my old (11 years old) PC (except for the dash which looks like a teleportation)

I think the attack could be more dynamic with a little more feedback (screen shake in particular). I really like the textures painted like this, the heads of the enemies are perfect!

Once again a custum game engine :astonished: ...
