* Post-Jam version with balance patching and bugfixing available at https://fusipon.itch.io/witch-contractor. Contract your witch today! The fullscreen works better too. *

You are a Witch (contractor). The client has requested you clear the Abyss of Bottomless Time. You may die, as time, or a monster, catches up with you, but you may also secure riches untold (according to the contract, you skipped the fine print).

  • WASD/arrows to move.
  • Mouse to aim.
  • Hold left mouse or spacebar to shoot.
  • P or Escape to pause.

Known Bugs
Full Screen can be a bit finicky, especially on Firefox. Browsers are weird. If the game seems to render slightly distorted in the browser, try slightly resizing the window, pulling it into its own tab, or entering and leaving full screen. We ran out of time to polish that bug off!

Apps
Godot (engine)
Paint.NET (sprite/art)
Piskelapp (sprite)
Beepbox (music)
Audacity (sound)
sfxr (sound)
bfxr (sound)

Patch v1.1
-Fixed mob spawns in later levels.
-Fixed a rare but run ending bug involving Bad Physics.

Really hectic little shooter! The 10 seconds was a good constraint, but the level geometry sometimes made it difficult to push through. Overall had fun!

Hello! Cool submission gg! I didn't understand all at first but I managed to find mechanics and all.
The concept is cool, the game didn't bug and I had a great time playing.

Nice shooter.
Though it would be a smoother experience if you could replay without needing to go to the main menu first.

Very challenging game, it wants me to die! Ha-ha! But I like the art and sound, and the controls are great, no bugs or errors. Thanks!

Ten seconds feels pretty tight given the level design. Quite challenging to pick up and play, but I can get used to it after a few game overs. Otherwise really solid execution on the control and gameplay loop.

Nice game, unfortunately I had a bug at the last floor, where an enemy spawned in the walls and I wasn't able to continue clearing the abyss. Also I was a little bit confused at the start about how big my character is and then why the collision is on the head, rather than the feet.

Fantastic entry!! I did it to Floor 36!! I got oneshotted by a blue enemy, i loved how you can stack the upgrades constantly and increase your attack flow. These are my kind of games, great job!

Game is a fun challenge! Some of the maps are quite difficult but were able to be done, most were not particularly interesting and I couldn't really identify a mood. I did enjoy the music and the art overall though the vibe was good and didnt find any bugs!

What a cool game! I made it to B16. 10 seconds is so frantic. The levels were really punishing. I kind of wish all the pillars and walls had circular corners because I kept getting stuck on them. I enjoyed looking forward to cool upgrades. I would recommend improving readability of your game assets, they looked cool, but I was confused. Even though I read "RoF" as "rate of fire" I initially was clicking like mad, I didn't realize it was auto-fire. I didn't understand the purple snake was a bad guy, I didn't understand the orange was a bad guy. In general I kind of had to learn everything about the game by trying because it wasn't obvious what was going on from the art. Still it was a lot of fun and great action. Thank you for the game!

I played this one on stream last night! unfortunately the VOD got muted, so no link :(

this one was really fun! making a procedural game during a game jam is definitely an ambitious task, and I think this one turned out pretty well. It took me a bit to realize the circle around my head was my hitbox, but after that it was decently smooth sailing!

@momo-hunter Thanks for that bug report. I think I've found it and we're gonna patch that soon.

Also very happy to hear that a lot of folks had bug free experiences. Staying basic and reserving a ton of time to polish was one of those things we had on our proverbial whiteboard.

Hey, I also did a game where you have ten seconds to get through a series of procedurally-generated levels!

I like the permanent upgrades and frantic action. Controls could use a bit of work, like giving the player some acceleration and deceleration. It's a tough question on whether to go for a permanent upgrade when you don't have much time left.

Floor 34 ! I found the game very fun, very nice concept and a very good power up feeling, starting from a few bullets to a submachine gun was very fun :)

I spotted this thing called 1001 Nights on your game list and was this close to just play that instead (some dog part of my brain was like PRINCE OF PERSIA WOOF!!1). Seriously, that thumbnail has magnetic properties. But I resisted, so here I am. Yes. Lovely game. Reached level 23. Quite some skills at project management with the amount of content. And one must appreciate the originality of having static fruit as monsters. Quite a finger to decades of tradition in gaming industry. The lady sprite is top.

10 seconds feels almost exactly right for the level of chaos in each level. The mood was excellent, and I love how powerful you start to feel.
Levels were a little tricky to navigate but it never felt impossible to sight-read a level. Maybe soften some of the harsher sfx?

Neat use of theme. It controls really well. I love the music and the mood. I wish the hitbox matched the character as the bottom half of the character passes through environment blocks. Had a really fun time playing. Very addictive. Would love to see this further developed. Great job!

A fantastic game. Something about a fast-paced dungeon crawling just feels right. The controls are great, the use of the theme is fairly original, it's awesome to see permanent upgrades add up. The only thing that threw me off is that the collider is on character's head, not their feet. It got me stuck on walls a few times, making me lose some time. And in this game you don't have much of it to spare.

Plays really well with good mechanics. Game feel is fairly solid but could use some improvement. Functional polish is really well done. Overall plays well and is a solid entry.

I feel like 10 seconds is just too quick, especially with the complexity of some of the levels. Would be nice if collecting the pink things added an extra second

10 seconds isent enough for me. I had a really hard time. But besides my old man reactions and the natural fear of stress, I liked it. It was nice that the levels changed. Good job.

This was an addictive game and I definitely played way longer than I thought I would! I love how you devoted plenty of time to creating lots of levels-- I think that's something that I don't do enough in my own LD entries. It's nice to have plenty of content to explore the game mechanics. Thanks for adding the 30 second option too! 10 seconds in each room is pretty tough. Really fun entry!

Wow, really cool game, 10 seconds level, love the concept! The collisions seem a little bit off, other than that, amazing job!

Very fun! Well-designed and easy to jump into. The procedural generation was very consistent and resulted in really nice levels.

Very nice artwork and music. The character sprite is very nostalgic to me for some reason.
